Guest guest Posted July 27, 2011 Report Share Posted July 27, 2011 CDC 07-27-11 HAWAII: " Hawaii to Offer Free Hepatitis B, C Screening " Associated Press (07.25.11) On Thursday, the state Department of Health will mark World Hepatitis Day by offering free screenings for hepatitis B and C. An estimated 1 percent to 3 percent of Hawaiians are living with hepatitis B and approximately 23,000 are living with hepatitis C. HBV is spread through blood, semen and infected body fluids and HCV is blood-borne. According to officials, hepatitis B and C are the most-common known causes of liver cancer, and Hawaii has the highest liver cancer rate in the nation.
