Guest guest
I've just been given a Prescription for an AFO for my left ankle leg or foot whatever they are used for. I thought I knew that when I got the one for my right side that it was for my drop foot. Now that I have to have one for the left side it seems to be for my unstable ankles. I don't have drop foot yet on the left side.( thank god)The one for my right side doesn't have a hinge I was told I could have either one, My problem is I don't know enough to make a choice. Has any one had to have them for both legs? Will it be difficult to get in and out of a car(already have a tough time)? I don't have to worry about driving I drive with my hands. Is there a problem with one with a hinge and the other strablizied? Will there be a problem using my wheelchair? I have asked the Doc. but he just says you'll adjust. Well I don't want to have to adjust without knowing a little of what to expect. So anyone with the same problem solved or unsolved help me make a choice that will make life a little easier then without the experimental stages of everything. I have been experimented on for the last 16 years with my RSD and now with CMT . I not only have CMT in both legs but RSD also. My therapist just shakes his head and keeps on plugging along with me without him I would have told the Doctors where they could go with all their experiments. So please help me with a little advise or similar experiences with 2 AFO'S? Stout
Guest guest
O'K I now have 2 AFO's one for each leg, ankle. No one told me That I'd have to learn how to walk all over again. I'm having trouble with my left one seems that my big toe wants to go numb. Anyone have the same trouble? Well, won't be here for a while have to take grandmothers ashes to Madera, and then off to Oregon with my mother to visit my great Uncle who also suffers from CMT. I'm hoping to get him to join us here. He's 92 and getting around like he was 50, so don't let anyone tell you, you won't be active when your older. Thanks ahead of time with advise Stout
