Hey Everyone,

I've been reading a couple of postings lately about the subject of ankle

fusion/stablization...I recently had a fall which resulted when my left ankle

gave out..twice in one week..needless to say the bruise and the swelling that

I have on my left leg and ankle is a whopper. What exactly is involved w/ankle

fusion and what are the pros/cons?I'm planning on talking with my primary

care doctor about a referral to a specialist and I don't want to go in there

totally blind about the subject.Any and all input is appreciated.

Hello the House,

Hi , I understand the swelling and I'm sure most of

us here do also, but I don't think that would mandate

having a ankle fussion unless I missed a previous post

that explained your problem. Your wise in going to the

Doctor's for an eval. I would think an AFO/brace,

insole, some type of orthortic would do the trick. As I

have stated peviously an ankle fusion is forever. I have

no problem with mine. In the ankle fusion the foot turns

with the whole leg, left or right. There is no up and

down for the foot. For example: In order for me to put

pressure on the gas peddle I have to bring the whole leg

in to play. No problem just the way it is. You will have

to have a rocker sole on the shoe. That gives you the

feeling the foot is bending as you walk. You could even

run.
