Guest guest
My internist has just ordered a phrenic nerve conduction test for me to see if I might be a candidate for a pace maker for that nerve. Has anyone heard of such a pace maker? If they can successfully stimulate the phrenic nerve, which regulates the respiratory system, then why not the nerves that service the feet and legs, hands and arms, etc? I have just had x-ray studies that indicate my diaphragm is paralyzed and that my breathing is being done only with my chest muscles. The MDA neurologist suggested I see this internist, and I am very impressed with him. I have had two visits with several tests in between. I took in the articles on breathing from Crabtree's web site, as suggested by someone here. He read them, got on the web himself for additional information and contacted several pulmonary and cardiac specialists before my second visit. He also called the MDA neurologist to tell him of his findings and not to rule out phrenic nerve involvement with CMT. The MDA neurologist's main value seems to be for referrals and needed prescriptions for AFOs, wheelshairs and such! Anyone ever heard of this pace maker?
