Guest guest
Hello Gretchen and all, Owen here, Sharing recent help I got from belonging to a CMT groups. My last annual physical the doctor wanted to put me on Lipitor for high cholesterol. At the time I remembered I had read something about people that had CMT should not use any of the " statens " (Spelling?) because in some cases they caused a peripheral neuropathy (Spelling?) and I mentioned that to my doctor. I told him before I would consider taking any drug to lower my cholesterol I wanted to check my past e-mail for the articles. I also told him I wanted to try lowering my cholesterol through diet first. After six months I went back to see the doctor for follow up. I had taken a print out of the article and gave it to the doctor to put into my file. After he read the article he was so happy I didn't take the Lipitor and that I was active in my own health care. The result was I lowered my total cholesterol from 253 down to 229 with just diet. He is happy with the results and I am staying on the low cholesterol diet. If I had not belonged to the CMT groups I could have more problems. They have been beneficial for me. I wonder if we, the people belonging to these groups are in general more proactive in our health care? May a topic for one of your polls? Happy Trails, Owen
