Guest guest
Hi All! I just wanted to say that I will be gone from the list for at least a week beginning tomorrow(Monday 4/8). And speaking of the poll this month, I will be on vacation--how's that for fun! It's been at least 3 years since we went away for anything more than a weekend, largely due to my CMT and surgery, pain, exhaustion. I am looking forward to having fun in Washington, DC! I also wanted you to know that I rented a wheelchair from my local medical supply store for $20/week! (or $40/month!) I know that DC is a lot of pavement walking, and we want to see as much as we can, so I thought I'd try the chair for some things on our busy days. If I'm doing well, I won't use it. But I think it will be good to have the option, and not hurt myself trying to keep up with my friends and passing on things I might not be up for as far as walking, but would otherwise really like to see. So I will post something when I get back and let you all know how it went. My mother screamed, " Washington, DC! How the HELL are you going to do that? It's all walking! " Considering her silence when we talked about AFOs, and her comments about " not giving in " and " fighting it " in my 21 years of knowing about my CMT, I just replied, " Well, we'll see. " I just wish I could convince her, as I am learning, that " not giving in " is not limiting your life experiences with CMT. And " fighting it " is finding ways to do what you want and still enjoy those things rather than just not doing them at all. She's not going to DC--I'm going with friends, so I didn't see any point in going 'round with her about it. Incidentally there is quite a variation in wheelchair pricing, even within the same city. The first place I checked wanted $75/month, and they wouldn't rent weekly for me. I won't go back there for anything. So TTFN, I'll catch up with you when I get back! A good week to everyone! Guest guest
Hi Joyce, I have just returned from a three week vacation in America and I spent five days in New York. For the first time I took a wheelchair on holiday for exactly the same reason and with the same thoughts and do you know what I had good energy levels and did not need to use it too often but knowing it was there was the key I felt more relaxed and less pressured so all I can say is go for it girl and enjoy Washington DC.
