Guest guest
This is my experience. I grew up with CMT. I also studied all the life sciences, my Drs. over the years 'suggested' that IF we wanted to plan for a family, we needed genetic couseling. My spouse absolutely agreed, himself in the medical profession. Now, realize when we did this genetic counseling was very 'rough' around the edge, so to speak, and DNA testing for CMT wasn't done yet. Both my spouse and I knew some genetics in general - and nothing about it is exact. Together, and I stress that word, we talked, we read, we listed, yes, even argued. On top of that with double careers, there were also other child-raising issues, like someone had to stay home to be the Mom. My spouse wanted what was best for me all around and as a Dr., he was quite concerned about the stress (physical) on my CMT body. Long story short, we do not have children and are still career 'lifers'. There are many neices and nephews so we do not in anyway feel we 'missed' out, since we are very much in 'their' picture. My spouse and I have both had wonderful opportunities with them and other children through our work. What keeps me going every day is a unshakable belief in a Higher Power who continues to surprize and astound me! Gretchen, right now I am sending you the article!
