Guest guest
Dear List, Thank you for letting me join your group. I have two daughters with CMT. My oldest daughter is 22 yrs old and has been in a wheelchair for 5 years. My youngest daughter is 13 years old and wears AFO's. She had to have tendon release surgery on her Achilles tendon summer of 2000. She will probably have to have more surgery to straighten her foot. Last May they went on a no hydrogentated oils diet. They have increased their intake of fresh fruit and vegetables. My oldest daughter has found that her weakness runs on a 7 day cycle. Day one is the strong day and then Day 7 is her very weak day but she has seen an improvement in her strenght since the diet change. She has also noticed a decrease in digestive problems with the change in diet. She has discovered that drinking orange juice makes her feel stronger. She also has found that Sprite will help her stomach problems, not 7-Up or the off brand name drinks. Both daughters have found that if they should eat something with hydrogenated oils in it they are very weak the next day. I can't explain this, it is just something they have experienced. We do not have a family history of CMT. We have had genetic testing and the doctors said that my husband and I must both have a recessive gene for CMT. I look forward to getting information about CMT from your list. Sincerely, Judy W ---------------------------------
