Although the government has announced free basic health service, it recently recommended the two Kathmandu-based organisations — Children Health Organisation (CHO) and Bikas Ko Bato (BKB) — to launch paid vaccination programme against Hepatitis B in the district. This decision, according to health officials, is against the state's promise of free basic medical service. On Friday, a meeting of health representatives, politicians, mediapersons and representatives from CHO and BKB decided to halt the programme. They also decided to exert pressure on the government to implement its commitment on free health. " The programme has been stopped to protest the act of charging money for vaccination from the public, " said Hari Prasad Rijal, representative from UML.
