Guest guest
, Yes, I walk - have done this since I was 35. Am now 49. Before that did hard aerobics and my Internist suggested I get OUTSIDE and start walking instead, since I was getting older, and he felt it would be gentler for me. So I do a little less than a mile, I once clocked it on my car, otherwise I don't know how much it is. Usually vary the route - I have 3-4 I take; sometimes take the dogs, sometimes not. My route was also suggested to have variation; some flat, some uphill, downhill, etc. I have figured out 'laps' in my neighborhood to do this or back ways to town. The whole routine takes me 40 minutes or so, that is pretty slow, and then if I stop to talk to friends, well, it is longer, since I walk some with them. I do all my physical activity in the morning when I have the most energy. So sometimes I just don't walk and need to garden or swim. Switching the routine helps me, no boredom, and I love being outside. Afternoons are when I will do some yoga and meditation. Your 4 mile walks would be too much for me at once. I also don't go to malls, mainly, don't enjoy them, instead shop catalogues and the Net and have more time for either work or fun or projects. I DO wear New Balance Cross Trainers OR the NB New Walking Shoe and I also have orthotics inside under my feet to stabilize me. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Hi , My physical activity is limited to walking nowadays, and I'm only talking 2 miles at most for the present. I'm a bit over weight. A bit, I should be that lucky. Lets try that one again, I am way over weight and that sure limits any physical activity. As I told Gretchen earlier,I'm working on it. Doing pretty good too. I would suggest you stay at your normal weight, but your physician would be the one to answer that question. I had an ankle fusion in 93, and that with special shoes and innersoles it is now possible for me to walk with absolutely no pain or discomfort. I am one of the fortunate CMTer's. Keep up your exercise, I a great believer in the old axiom, if you don't use it you lose it. E >Over the past few months, every once in awhile people >bring up things like how much they enjoy walking. Is >that something that most of you out there are able to >do? I used to love to walk a few years back, up to 4 >miles a day. Now I can barely walk at all. If I go >mall shopping, I need my wheel chair. If I walk a few >yards, I need my cane. I miss walking - I loved it. >I exercise at least 3 times a week with a hydraulic >weight and stretching program, but that's about all I >can do. I'm 44 years old, and weigh 130 pounds.
