She was the Queen Mum and yes, her name was also . She was

married to the king that came before (not the mum). I believe,

although I could very well be wrong, that The queen mum and her king

husband had no sons so the present became queen.

Whew, isn't there anyone out here from Britain to fill in the blanks for

us?????

Anyway, the Queen Mum was a compassionate, caring and incredibly wise

person...and those were traits that I have heard were not passed down to

the present Queen. And I've heard that she was deeply loved and

respected by the people of Britain.

Isn't anyone in our group from Britain to help us out?

I'm off to bed...been a long day and have to be up early. Good night

everyone....

Dear Connie,

She married the King and therefore became Queen. When the King died in the

50's, her daughter became the queen, so technically, she never ruled. Anyone

who believes that has never been to England and doesn't know anything about

British tradition.

Welcome to Current Events 101.

Dear Connie,

I'm from Eastern N. C., but I have been to England and have several friends

who are " British subjects " . Yes, they are polite almost to a fault

sometimes. The brother, who was supposed to be King, abdicated his throne to

marry his American love. It was quite a scandal in it's day.

that's so cute. That's great she is reading, Nic is still learning letter

sounds-he knows 11 so far-and this was the goal the SPED director said he wasn't

ready for....

today Nic came home with a shamrock that said

" Daer Nick F

I like you beck you are a nice gine it's your luck day From jacob " -- I still

haven't deciphered the " gine " yet. LOl

Queen

As a recover from yet another awful night of math homework with

, wondering is she's ever going to get the more abstract

concepts of 1st grade math, I ponder the benfits of inclusion. Yet, as

I sift through all the " Monday junk " that came home in the 3 backpacks,

I find a simple, stapled booklet with " " written on the front

with marker..... it was her " Queen " book..

Last week was " queen " of her class, which basically meant she

was the special person for the week. She got to wear a special paper

crown all week, and bring it home for us to keep forever :-) She was

" interviewed " by her classmates, got a poster made about her, led the

lines, etc. She has been waiting all year for her turn, and it was an

exciting week. Well, apparently as part of this exercise, the kids

write about what they learned about the queen (or king) or what they

think about them and draw a picture of the person. Here are some of the

precious comments 's classmates wrote about her (1st grade

spelling/grammer intact):

" beth you are special because you ware glasses you are a good

reader. you are nice "

" you are nice. you are a nice queen. "

" you are a nice friend. "

" you are pretty. I like you. "

" you are smart. You are a good reader "

" you are a great friend. You are nice "

" you are nice. I like you. you are fun. "

and the longest one.....

" is nice. She is a good gril. She weres nice clos. She has

nice riding. She is special "

The pictures were even better. has a range of hair color and

lengths from blonde to black (it's really long, medium brown, almost

always worn in 2 ponytails), wears glasses in half the pictures (really

does all the time), but in 18/19 pictures, she is wearing a blue dress.

Interesting observations from her classmates!

will read this book over and over again (I think she wore out

the kindergarten " Beary Special book " ), and hopefully feel as good as I

did reading these simple thought from her friends and classmates. They

may all write the same thing in each child's book, but I'm hopeful that

these kids are really seeing her for the neat kid she is.

Anyway, it choked me up, and I'll keep it handy tomorrow night when we

are trying to explain " What's the rule " , and counting quarters :-)

, mom to (9), (7 DS), and (5)
