Guest guest
Hello All, I am the lucky women with a broken screw at C-7 from neck surgery in Jan 2007. I am very very scared to have surgery again however, I believe I have found the best possible place Mayo Clinic ville and going to have a Neuro Surgeon this time. They plan on going in from the back of my neck for this surgery and told me it will be more painful because they need to go threw a muscle in my neck. (Cant wait) My question has anyone had surgery going from the back of the neck? Any folks out there that have had to have a 2nd surgery to stablalize an issue in the neck. I would like to thank you all for allowing me to participate and for all your comments and answers!! All my best for a less painful day! I had a failed neck surgery through the front and after seeing everyone for second opinions all they could offer is exploratory surgery to see what MRI's can't show. Anytime they cut muscle it is more painful. I don't envy you and will think of you and pray for you that this is the fix that will make you pain free. Sounds like you did pick a great hospital. Best of luck to you. Dave

Guest guest
I am curious as to what the effects are of having a broken screw? My recent MRI showed that I have a " loose " screw on C6. I called the surgeon who performed the surgey and he said that it isn't a big deal and I can go the rest of my life with it the way that it is. My fusion took so I shouldn't have to worry about it anymore (so they say). What are the ramifications if you don't fix the broken screw? Is it causing you pain now? Are you having any other issues besides the broken screw? Guest guest
I also have a broken screw at C5 and my doc told me he would watch it very closely. The problem would be if it started backing out. It would have to come out if that started happening and I'm not excited about that at all since I've already had 2 neck fusions. I had the last one in Jan 06 and the screw has moved because at first he just suspected a crack in it and now you can see clearly the space between the broken parts. So we'll see what comes of it. Good luck with yours.
