Guest guest
Hi, Thanks to everyone who responded to my post. I am learning a lot about this " dis-ease! " One thing I have learned is that my friends and family do not understand when I complain about fatigue or my aches and pains. They just shrug it off and tell me to exercise more. ?? It is really not very well understood by those who haven't experienced it, is it.
Guest guest
Hi , My name is Gloria and I am from Ok. I think that the first time I mailed our group I was having the same problem. My youngest daughter is 28 and very much into her health. She's a vegatarian and a yoga instructor, so she was always on me about excercise and all. Ha!! I could barely walk across the room!! It took 4 surgeries and the doc to tell me that I could not work anymore for them to finally decide that mom might be sick. I started making my husband go to my rheumy appts. with me to finally make all of them just a little more sympathetic about my condition. So hang in there and everyone will start to understand more when they finally get to know that ra is not just your run of the meal arth. This is really a great group and we are glad to have you. Another idea is to remind someone of what it felt like when they had a toothache, or sprained an ankle, or whatever.....then I simply told them that most of my joints feel like their toothache felt. I may be fortunate in that my hands and wrists show a lot of damage......I can just point to that and tell folks that most of my joints are like that....it just isn't visible because I wear clothes! Like I'd run around nude for their benefit! Yeah! Right! wrote: They just shrug it off and tell me to exercise more. ?? Ardeith writes: Right!!!! Sure you should!!! They have no conception of what stressing your joints can do to you, girl! Gentle exercises to keep as much flexibility as possible is a good thing......trying to jog down to the corner is not. Of course, you wouldn't wish RA on anyone, I know, but you can sit back and snicker a bit if they complain of sore legs from their latest five mile run, can't you? wrote: It is really not very well understood by those who haven't experienced it, is it. She was one of those people who wasn't going to admit she could not do something, and she did her joints a lot of damage......back in the 50's and 60's when the medications were much less helpful. She wept when I was diagnosed in '72. Then sat me down and told me what she had learned the hard way..... which was a big help to me as I didn't have to repeat her mistakes..... Guest guest
Dear Gloria- When your body sed is way up for along time it can damage internal organs. Allergies can affect you so lung function tests are important. Hope you are feeling better soon. I think that she may now start listening to her body a little more. I would not be so worried about her if this were the first time this happened. She has also complained of pain in her ankles, and her wrists at different times. She has not made an appointment with her pc yet, but promised to ask about it next time she goes. And me......I went to my theumy the other day, and she has halted all of my meds until my allergist gets the allergies under control. She checked my sed rate and it is still way up, so she gave me a steroid shot and prescribed morphine to help with the flare I am in. I also have an appointment with a neuropulmonary doc to check my lung function. Has anyone done that? I am not sure what to expect. Anyway, thanks again for all of your encouragement and for letting me whine.lol Hugs from Ok. Gloria
