Guest guest
Dear Debbie, My daughter had to get off of pain meds., and was given something called suboxone to help ease her off, however, from what I read, you can also get addicted to that, so now she's attempting to wean herself off of the suboxone, and just try the basic pain meds such as one of the hydrocodone types. My dr. gave me xanax to ease withdrawals, it helped a bit, but I felt like I had just been through the worst case of flu for 2 weeks. Everyone's body is different, and I've been through withdrawals from about 3 different meds., but the longest it lasted for me was 2 weeks, But I guess it depends on how long you were on the med. that you have to withdraw from. Short of going into the hospital or a clinic for rapid detox, you're kind of stuck. Hopefully it's almost out of your system-I know it's sheer torture going through it, but we're all here for you and know what you're going through. It's bad enough when I have to go to a new dr. and give them a run down on what pain meds. I have to take, and I sure get some weird looks when i tell them the opiate I'm on, and have to give them an explanantion so they don't think I'm a druggie. My husband would like to get out of Vegas, but it's so hard to think of moving when you know you have to find a new dr. who will give you what you need. I read your story, and others, and see what you have to go through to get pain relief, and hear about people having their pills counted every month, and having to take drug tests every month so the dr. can see that you really are taking your scrip and not selling it, and get depressed because it looks like we're going to be stuck here forever, simply because drs. here are more understanding, at least to me, about our needs for pain. Well, this is getting longer than I intended, but i hope you are on the downside of your withdrawals, and can find a decent dr. in your HMO. If you can financially afford it, I would check into changing insurances in the next open season, in the PPO's and PFF's, there are just so many more choices available in drs. Take care of yourself, I hope to hear soon that you're feeling better Sincerely, Jeannie_,_._,___ ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
Hi Jeannie! Thanks, and yes I am feeling better now. I think I had a bad case of the flu along with the withdrawls...but now I don't know what was what to be honest. I'm just glad that I am finally feeling more like myself! I am familiar with suboxone, I never had it myself but have heard many good things about how well it works and fast too. The problem with that med though is exactly what you said, it is also addicting and stopping it will also give you withdrawls, but I have heard that there is something in there that gives pain relief for those that are getting off of pain meds and I know that withdrawls can make the pain seem more intense than it is. Also the way it works is by filling those pain receptors in the brain and blocking the effects of any narcotics that one would take after the fact. As far as I know, this is how it helps if someone has taken an overdose, which is one of the uses of this med. I'm only saying what I have been told...however I don't know for sure with written documentation. Yes, I do believe that I need to make a change with my insurance. I just get so tired of fighting all the time with this HMO...I guess that nothing is easy when you need help though is it. I'll look into what you said about the other insurances. I appreciate your help! Thanks, hope you have a good day!
