Guest guest
Congratulations, Jeri! I don't have any firsthand experience with pregnancy and RA, but perhaps others in our group will have some good advice for you. Here are two articles with information that may be helpful: http://my.webmd.com/content/dmk/dmk_article_3961209 http://go.drkoop.com/conditions/arthritis/library/arthritis_pregnancy.html Will you keep babe #3 at the breast? Did you have to mention the teething problem a few days ago? I thought I had forgotten all about that pain. Not so. Guest guest
Glad to hear he isn't nibbling, Jeri! For some reason, all three of mine did - OUCH! I'm worried about your hips, back, and knees, too. Try not to be too concerned about the weight gain though. Inevitably some will have to go on, but all you can do is eat a sensible diet - what you gain will be for the good of the baby. I know trying to rest and stay off of your feet will be some trick with three children and a husband to take care of. Sorry about that. Hope your husband is very helpful. Maybe Rhoda can keep reminding you to lie down and take it easy? Do you get morning sickness which I call " all day sickness " ? I hope not. ----- Original Message ----- From: " Jeri O'Neill " <junglewoman28@...> < egroups> Sent: Friday, January 05, 2001 9:12 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Pregnancy > , > Thanks! Guest guest
Jeri- Hi my name is LaVina. I am 31 years old and will be trying to get pregnant in a few months. I have been unable to find anyone who has gone through pregnancy with RA and wonder whether the RA will be worse afterwards. Please keep me posted on your progression and what you find that works for you to help with the symptoms since drugs will no longer be an option. Unfortunatly hot baths/hot tubs are also not an option. You can e-mail me privately at Beveridge1406@... if you'd like. Thank you LaVina
Guest guest
Hi LaVina: During my pregnancy, my r.a. went into remission. It was odd, I'd play around with my hands because there was absolutely no pain whatsoever! My OB/GYN said the immune system modulates during pregnancy, and she saw many patients who experienced improvement during this time. About three months after weaning both babies, I flared. With my first, only requiring a few cortisone injections, and with my second, requiring the lovely Prednisone, then other disease modifiers to get things to settle down. But who can say for sure...Perhaps without the pregnancies I may have flared just the same, only without these cute babies to enrich my life. Now I have a few crooked fingers, but I've had r.a. for around 25 years, so I figure that's part of the deal with this particular illness. I've finally accepted my limitations, instead of trying to ignore them. I tell people when I need help, etc. Best wishes, --Leigh
Guest guest
, Yes my hubby is very helpful. He'll cook dinner, clean the house and even let me sleep in on the weekends. And yes i'm having all day sickness. With my boys i never got anything but the tired feeling and tender breasts..with my daughter i was very sick for 4 months, and so far i feel the same as i did with her. When i eat it comes back to haunt me. It's all i can do is keep my tummy calm..otherwise i'm dizzy and constanly nausous..not fun! lol Jeri --- Matsumura <Matsumura_Clan@...> wrote: <HR> <html><body> <tt> Glad to hear he isn't nibbling, Jeri! Guest guest
I think I'm in love with your husband, Jeri. Ginger helped me a bit with the nausea - ginger candy, decaf ginger tea, crystallized ginger, ginger ale. It also has anti-inflammatory properties. Could be worth a try if you like the taste. Hang in there! Maybe your husband can throw up for you, too? ----- Original Message ----- From: " Jeri O'Neill " <junglewoman28@...> < egroups> Sent: Sunday, January 07, 2001 9:18 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Pregnancy > , > > Yes my hubby is very helpful. Guest guest
Hi LaVina, I have always heard that when you have RA and get pregnant that you feel like you've gone into a remission. But after the baby is born that you flare. That is what I've heard several times, one time being from my ex-doc. I don't have kids, and it looks like I won't be. My RA is too severe, and I have 19 years worth of damage. But I am OK with that. I can always adopt. =) But I am loving my freedom too much to give it up, and since I need lots of sleep, and my max waking hours are about 12, I know I wouldn't get a whole lot done of what I wanted to do after chores are done. Besides, I have reservations about bringing a child into this world, but that is a whole other story. =) I prefer to baby-sit so I can send them home. Guest guest
Hi, Smart girl, Rainy Sue, about babysitting then sending them home! My son and daughter-in-law have been married six years and dated six years. They have a beautiful, sweet, shy Siamese cat. They have plans to have a baby in another year or so. I tell them they very well might want to just stick with cats! I have read that is common for a relationship to fail after a couple who have had years of just considering themselves have children. Guest guest
> meredith-i know exactly how you feel about the doctor's office! i was diagnosed with RA at age 19 and am now 26. i had my first baby this january and it was a risk, but well worth it. we are pretty sure that he will be our only little one, though. i'd rather be a great mom to one than risk it again and be a non-participating mom to two. i wish you all luck with your pregnancies and if anyone has any questions about getting off meds and the effects after delivery-feel free brooke in pa > From: " Meredith Pinkerton " <mlpinkerton@...> > Date: 2006/10/24 Tue PM 03:04:19 EDT > < > > Subject: Re: [ ] Re: pregnancy > > Hi and Renata, > > I am 32 years old. Been diagnosed 1 year on the 28th. I sometimes feel like the only young person with this disease. When I go to my Rheumy, his office is filled with older people. I am SO GLAD I had my kids young. I have three children. I could not imagine having babies right now. I will pray for you both as you care for your younger children. > > Meredith in Canada. > > [ ] pregnancy > > >Date: Sun, 22 Oct 2006 17:08:41 -0000 > > > > > >I am only 29, RA hit me after I gave birth to my daughter, two > years > > >ago. Guest guest
Janis, Give your doctor's office a call today! If he isn't in, call your pharmacist. Some medications we take for RA are not good to take if you are pregnant. You need to know if any of the drugs you are taking could harm the baby. Luckily, from what I've heard, being pregnant puts the arthritis in remission. So not taking all your medications should not be a problem. A friend of mine has been off her RA medication for the last two years to start a family. She is now pregnant with her second child. I don't have any children, with severe RA and a nasty family history of autoimmune diseases, I thought it wasn't a good idea. That said, I LOVE being an Auntie to all my friends children, spoil them rotten, and want all of them to be healthy happy little people. So take care of yourself and your little one, okay?
