White House to Recognize World Hepatitis Day on July 28

http://www.worldhepatitisalliance.org/Home.aspxWorld Hepatitis Day is an annual

The Global Epidemiology of HCC: Present and Future

The global risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC or primary liver cancer) has

been largely driven by HBV infections for the past century, as well as other

factors. The dominant effect of HBV on global HCC risk should decline as the

population vaccinated against HBV grows older. However, obesity and diabetes may

become even more important risk factors for HCC, according to a recent

publication by McGlynn and London (Clinics in Liver Disease, May 2011). Learn

more.

Stepped-Up HBV Vaccine Series is Effective During Pregnancy

UT Southwestern Medical Center maternal-fetal specialists have confirmed that an

accelerated hepatitis B vaccination schedule for pregnant women who are at high

risk for becoming infected is effective. The normal three-shot dosage given to

adults over a 12-week period (instead of the usual 6 months) was found to still

offer protective long-term immunity. Learn more.
