The Global Epidemiology of HCC: Present and Future The global risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC or primary liver cancer) has been largely driven by HBV infections for the past century, as well as other factors. The dominant effect of HBV on global HCC risk should decline as the population vaccinated against HBV grows older. However, obesity and diabetes may become even more important risk factors for HCC, according to a recent publication by McGlynn and London (Clinics in Liver Disease, May 2011). Learn more. Stepped-Up HBV Vaccine Series is Effective During Pregnancy UT Southwestern Medical Center maternal-fetal specialists have confirmed that an accelerated hepatitis B vaccination schedule for pregnant women who are at high risk for becoming infected is effective.
