Guest guest
Yes my regular doctor checked my thryoid recently and I too have an underactive thyroid. I've just recently started taking meds for it. Guest guest
Your symptoms sound more like hyperthyroid then hypo. Chronic fatigue is common and MTX is chemotherapy so you will feel very tired. I walk around half the time in a fog myself. Thyroid goiters or abnormal function are common in auto-immune disease. I have two, one small on my right side and a huge one around my collar bone on the left but my thyroid tests are normal right now. I am taking PTU which balances the thyroid. Whether hypo or hyper its always a good idea to get your levels tested. You might want to see an endocrinologist for a follow up. Remember that GP's are not specialists although they like to think they are. You need specialists along with your GP to get the best care possible. Good Luck. Guest guest
Sorry for the long delay in responding - I've been on jury duty and changing jobs so got far behind. I didn't like the meds at all - not the same kind of side effects as mtx but general not feeling well. I haven't been great about taking it. I'm going away for a family wedding next week and plan to start taking it again when I return. susan On 6/17/08, KENNETH PARTON <lynda.parton@...> wrote: Hi , Perhaps my GP is right then about the thryroid problem going hand in hand with the RA - blood test will tell all. Guest guest
Yes I have. They diagnosed my thyroid as Graves disease. It was hyperthyroid. I was having symptoms like yours with a rapid heart rate, being very tired all the time, hair loss, and the worse part was the muscles kept getting weaker and weaker and made it hard to even walk, They put me on thyroid meds to bring the level down to normal and also on a drug to slow down the fast heart rate. After I was back to normal after 2 years they said sometimes they can take you off the med and it will stay down . We gave that a try but it went back up. We tried the meds again but this time they made me break out in hives. So it was either surgery or Radioactive Iodine Treatment We did the radioactive and it pretty much destroyed. For two years the levels were maintained normal with the little bit of thyroid left. Now I am on Synthroid to keep the level normal. I had the RA long before the Thyroid came along and are also a diabetic.
