You primary has concerns about prescribing pain meds, because primary care physicians have to be sure they aren't giving you enough meds that you could become addicted, or even sell the pills. And, perhaps, you could find a pain specialists.....I know they have a pain management clinic here, where I live........there might be one near you. These folks are dealing with chronic pain all the time......whereas your primary care doc has all sorts of lesser concerns to deal with. Like colds and infected toenails. Guest guest
RD's for everything. My PCP is useless with these things. Have your thyroid checked. It could be that you have hyperthyroid and it will raise your pressure and give you palpitations. I have a growth on my thyroid from RA. I will be taking PTU for that the rest of my life. Using Darvocet for pain will work very well before bedtime. I use Oxazepam 30mg for sleep. I also take a little soma and trazadone. There are lots of problems and your RD can rule out alot of things or rule in alot that are only associated with RA disease. A PCP will see you as an addict and hypochondiac but you RD knows what you need and can validate your concerns. Chin up. Guest guest
Thank you for your reply!!!!!!!!!! My PC DOES view me as a hypochondriac!!!! I can't stand it. My rheumy is in Boston. That's about 45 mins from where we live. The PC is much closer so I've tried to rely on her for some things. I am seeing the rheumy next Monday so I'll try to cover everything with him. I've had my thyroid checked. I've had high BP since I was in my late 30's. I'm 47 now. There's never been a reason for it other than my mother also had it at the same age. I'm taking tenolol (sp?) and verapamil (sp?) for it. Both prescribed by my PC. Should I have the RD start prescribing those too? I've tried to be brave and not deal with the pain but now I realize that it is affecting my quality of life big time. Right now I'm taking tramamil (sp?) as needed but there are times when it isn't enough. -------Original Message------- From: Deborah Bargad Date: 5/12/2007 5:10:59 PM Rheumatoid Arthritis Subject: Re: Re: Pain + more questions RD's for everything. Guest guest
Normaly your family or pirmary care Dr will treat you for the pain , Mine is the one that treats me for my bad pain but I allso have a nerroligost where my disk is messed up badly he keeps me on the maintince medicen to keep the pain from getting very bad before takeing the meds . Which was what I was doing afrist I would wind up in so much pain I would be in tears crying and have to take enought stuff to put me to sleep to get out of it it took a long time for him to get the meds right and me to learn to use them properly . I still am in pain but I can bear it unless something goes aray now . As for my rhumy he does not give me pain meds , maybe because he knows what I take and don't ask for anything else ? Well other than , the shots in the joints when I need them and my RA meds. ----- Original Message ----From: <angelac71@...>Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Saturday, May 12, 2007 5:28:32 PMSubject: Re: Re: Pain + more questions Just wanted to let you know that I go to my RA doctor for everything.
