Guest guest
Partially right on the income. SSI is need based and your income from any source (earned or not) is included in the determination and for calculating the amount of benefits you would receive. SSDI is based entirely on your being disabled and your contributions to SSA. But... Both programs look at if you are capable of doing SGA or Substantial Gainful Activity. Which is monthly income of about $800 from a work activity. So if you are working when you apply for SSDI or SSI, and are making more than about $800 a month. That's it, denied. They will not even bother to look at if you are disabled or not. Do check if your state has a Short Term Disability Program, some do. It would be from unemployment dept. You might also want to check if your employer has some sort of Disability benefit program for while you do your application for SSDI.
