Guest guest
Hello, Sorry to hear about your mother. I've had RA for 2 years now and take methotrexate (15 mg) by injection once a week. (Taking methotrexate by injection rather than pills is supposed to reduce side effects.) I inject myself at nite so I can sleep off any side effects. The morning after the shot, I take a leucovorin tablet which is supposed to help. Sometimes I'm naseaus for 48 hours but I notice that if I eat only good food (no junk food) the day prior to the shot then I don't get the naseau. Methotrexate has done wonders for me, personally, but some people just cant tolerate it. I know a 45 year old man who couldn't keep any food down on it. He had better luck with Embrel. We're all different so remember, there are other medications out there. One (or several) will work for your mother. All the best....Maureen --- " Dr. E S Prakash " <esp_biet@...> wrote: > My mother aged 65 years is diagonised as RA. (it is > moderate) but signalling worries for future. Guest guest
Using MTX will cause nausea and hair loss. Using Leucovorin will rescue her from any side effects. Also taking the pills before bedtime will help her sleep through the symptoms. She is on a very low dose of MTX so using the above should help. Guest guest
Hi and welcome to the group. Nausea with Methotrexate is a fairly common side effect and sometimes it resolves when the body adjusts to it and other times it continues. Methotrexate should be taken with food containing carbohydrates. Some people have such severe side effects that they cannot tolerate oral Methotrexate but many of them do well by using Methotrexate injections, usually self-administered once a week. I hope your mother is able to find relief for her RA. God bless. Guest guest
Hi, I am on Metotrexate for quite a few years now, never ever had any side effects, but it is not doing the job it used to did any more,My Dr put me on Orencia, and i landet in the Hospital 2x, with pneumonia, i told her i did not want to take that drug, but she preasurred me in to, i was so made, i told her i dont want her as my Dr any more , I think she did it more for the money, than for the pation. I found another Dr , i am still taking Methotraxate, but i also take a placenil every day. so far i dont really see any results, but maybe it will take some time.Hope to God.
