Yes and no. Once approved he will be paid retroactive benefits but SSDI does not

begin until 5 full months after you file. He may get retroactive SSI back to the

filing date. It all depends on his income during that time. Many conditions

qualify the applicant for almost immediate approval.

I hope this helps,

Hey everyone, its cindy. I have an urgent disability question???? we have

a dear friend who has Conjestive heart failure, and has just been diagnosed with

terminal small cell carcinoma in his lung, liver and brain.

Tommorrow he is filing for social security disability. The internet says that

it takes 3-5 months. No doubt he will qualify, but will he get retroactive money

from the date he files? need to know to help a nice man. Thanks cindy

Hi Jane, how are you feeling? we have been thru heart tests on dave. Finally it

comes out he is sort of alright. He did have a heart attack, but did good on his

stress test, and no further testing and no stents or anything for now! Phew

phew. Me i have been going to a gyno with a big mess.

Ok that sort of does help with our friend. The thing is, i hope he lives that

long. I mean i'm in denial, because i dont want to think the worst. He has no

income because he's unemployed, but had to stop the unemployment, because He's

NOT available to work(cause he's so sick)So he's trying to switch over to ssi,

or ssdi. So he's in a pickle for sure. I'll check back in tommorrow on the board

to see how your doing? cindy

Certain illnesses automatically qualify a person for disability. I believe

there is no waiting on checks when a person has a terminal illness. After all,

what good would they do a person if they aren't living?

It's good to hear from you. I am sorry about your and Dave's troubles. I can

relate as my companion has had 2 heart attacks (1 since we have been together)

and multiple stints and angioplasty. I am doing much better emotionally and

mentally since my disability was approved. Physically I am getting somewhat

worse. I now have permanent numbness in 1/2 of my left hand and into arm. It is

cold here in GA.. Today it has drizzled rain all day.

Take care,

There is a list of conditions that qualify automatically for SSDI. Sadly they

are still dependent on a person at SSA to make that decision. I have had several

friends die with HIV and aids before they drew their first check. I also know

people that were dying with cancer who died before being approved. Our nation

needs to do better for it's taxpaying citizens.

How are you doing? Everyone has been so quiet lately I thought I had been kicked

out of the group. LOL

Jennette, well the fellow that our friend was talking to at the ssdi told him,

most people with his condition dont live to collect it. Gosh i hope your right

jennette. He has a wife with a rare bone disease, she has such an odd thing, she

flies down to NIH as a test subject. Course we are in maine, and are all poor.

The factory closed and put him and dave too out of work. Plus tons of other

people. I hope he can get it right away. cindy
