Guest guest
We have been home for a few days now...I was so sorry to learn the outcome of your liver Biop. Do they give you any other reason for the disease? I'm sorry I didn't get you callsed while there. Little Ethan didn't come until November 30th. He and mother are home. It is snowy and cold up here. Guest guest
AST and ALT should be on your test. AST norm= 2-50 ALT norm= 2-60 Also depends on what you are looking for: Can also test for: hepatitis A,B an C Bilirubin These are what I have been tested for: Here is a web site: I typed Liver Tests into Google http://www.clevelandclinicmeded.com/diseasemanagement/gastro/livertest s/livertests.htm Nickso > Does anyone what the basic tests for the liver are ? ALT and AST are liver enzymes Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) Test Overview Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) is an enzyme found mainly in the liver, but also in smaller amounts in the kidneys, heart, muscles, and pancreas. ALT formerly was called serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT). ALT is measured to determine whether the liver is damaged or diseased. Low levels of ALT are normally found in the blood. However, when the liver is damaged or diseased, it releases ALT into the bloodstream, causing levels of the enzyme to rise. Although ALT is found in organs other than the liver, most increases in ALT levels are due to liver damage. The ALT test often is done along with other tests that can determine whether the liver is damaged, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and bilirubin. Both ALT and AST levels are reliable indicators of liver damage. ASTAspartate Aminotransferase (AST) Test Overview Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) is an enzyme found mainly in liver, heart, red blood cells, and muscle tissue. It also is found in other organs, such as the pancreas and kidneys. AST formerly was called serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT). See an illustration of the liver, the pancreas, or the kidneys. When an organ (such as the heart or liver) or body tissue is diseased or damaged, additional AST is released into the bloodstream. The amount of AST in the blood is directly related to the extent of the tissue damage. After severe damage, AST levels rise in 6 to 10 hours and remain high for about 4 days. The AST test may be done at the same time as a test for alanine aminotransferase, or ALT. (See Alanine Aminotransferase test.) The ratio of AST to ALT (AST:ALT) sometimes can help determine whether the liver or another organ has been damaged. AST also can help determine the cause of the liver damage. Both ALT and AST levels are reliable indicators of liver damage. This test is done on a blood sample taken from a vein. Sometimes blood samples for AST testing are collected each day for several days in a row, to determine if the AST level is going up or down. Guest guest
Laurie, Welcome to the group. How high are your liver levels? You really need to talk with your doctor soon about this. When mine went up my rheummy back down my dosage of MTX and the next bloodwork was fine. Shirley > > Hello, I'm new to this group. Guest guest
You should examine your medications. Both can effect the liver. I would see a specialist with regard to liver function and possibly take a biologic. www.google.com Liver damage with methotrexate Liver damage with azulfidine. Get answers. Good Luck.. Guest guest
Hi Deborah, I spoke with my doctor and they will be doing another blood test in a month. She said that if my levels elevate more then we will talk about it. Take care. Laurie > > You should examine your medications. Both can effect the liver.
