Guest guest
Pat: I was told I have to get the flu shot plus I got the pneumonia shot a couple of years ago. However, I have asthma and when I get sick, the asthma takes over and I usually end up in the ER or the hospital. If you are taking immune suppressants drugs, it is probably wise to get the flu shot. That's my take on the situation. Jeannette
Guest guest
Pat..I too was told I should get the flu shot every year and also got the pneumonvax last year(supposed to last a few yrs) as I have allergies and asthma too. Also my kids were advised to get the shots if living with me as they go to places (school, work) with more exposure to flu bugs, etc and will bring it home to me. NOw since I have been getting flu shots I seem not to get as sick when I am sick......Judy
Guest guest
Dear Pat, I don't know about anyone else, but my rheumy has advised me not to get a flu shot. He seems to think it may do more harm than good...although he never told me how he reached that conclusion. That is just one of the many reasons I have for trying to find a new doctor..lol. Wishing you all the best, Sharon (a newbie)
Guest guest
Sharon, I've never had a flu shot, and my rheumy didn't say one way or another. I've just heard to many people getting the flu after a shot, so I decided to take my chances. I've never had the flu that I know of, so maybe if I had had it before, I would want a shot. I'm 47 and so far have been lucky. a ----- Original Message ----- From: <dixieturtle67@...> < egroups> Sent: Wednesday, November 01, 2000 2:25 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Good News! > Dear Pat, > I don't know about anyone else, but my rheumy has advised me not to get a flu > shot. Guest guest
I had mine, yesterday. I have had more of a reaction this year than I have in the last several years, but let's hope that this is due to the fact that more 'mojo' is in THIS year's shot mix than in the past. I asked my MD about this last week. He said that I was on such a low, low low dose of MTX that it was not a bad idea to take it. I asked what RA issues ARE in place that would militate AGAINST taking it: 1. hEAVY AND DIVERSE USE OF DMARDS 2. LOWER IMMUNITY AND RESULTANT IMMUNE-RELATED ISSUES SUCH AS CHRONIC INFLECTION, UPPER RESPYS, ETC. 3. TAKING COUMERIN(?) AND HEPARIN(?) I don;t know what the H those are anyway. Oh yeah, Coumarin thins blood, right? Guest guest
Pat, I think the B-cell delpletion theory sounds very promising. I would like to see more details though. How off were your neutrophils and lymphocytes? Did you have both the absolute numbers and the percentages? It may not mean too much if it only happened this once and they were only borderline high and low. High neutrophils and low lymphocytes can also be a function of having a connective tissue disease, among other things. Here are some links about white blood cells that should help: http://www.merck.com/pubs/mmanual_home/sec14/156.htm http://www.dml.co.nz/doctoronly/handbook/lymphocytes.htm http://www.dml.co.nz/doctoronly/handbook/neutrophils.polymorphs..htm http://www.ultranet.com/~jkimball/BiologyPages/B/Blood.html As for the flu shot, I've read lots on both sides, but the most important thing to remember is that, in people with suppressed immune systems (either by disease or drugs), vaccines with " killed " material should be used as opposed to the " live " immunizations. I've never had a flu shot, I don't seem to be susceptible to it so far, and I'm not in a high-risk category anyway. Glad you had some fun celebrating Halloween. Have fun with yoga. ----- Original Message ----- From: <pengland@...> < egroups> Sent: Tuesday, October 31, 2000 11:01 AM Subject: [ ] Good News! > > > Subject: RE: [is this to good to be true! > > Importance: High > > > > Check this out! Guest guest
Just wanted to let everyone know that I gave LDN information to a friend of mine who has been having lots of weird neurological problems. About 10 years ago, doctors thought she had Bells Palsy, but it turned out not to be. Nobody really knew what the problem was, but she did get better. She had begun to have more trouble a couple of years ago. Turned out that her mouth was a terrible mess of metal and root canals. She began getting all of these problems taken care of. In the meantime, she made several trips to Minnesota to the Mayo, but they couldn't really put their finger on anything either. She took the LDN info to her holistic dentist in Big Spring, Texas and he was quite impressed! He's writing her the script and wants to talk to three other patients about it!! I thought this was exciting! Marcie (PPMS)
