Welcome to the group but I’m sorry

you have reason to be here. Doctors don’t know what causes RA but any

stress can trigger RA even though it does not cause it. Sometimes the stress

is physical, sometimes emotional, and it can be either good emotional or bad

emotional. Apparently at times of stress the mind is so preoccupied with what

causes the stress that something else falls through the cracks so RA can come

in. (Pardon the technical medical terminology … or lack thereof.)

Make sure your primary doctor knows how

long it will be before you see a rheumatologist. Perhaps she can get you in

quicker or provide your RA treatment till you see the rheumatologist. Early

and aggressive treatment of RA is now strongly recommended to lessen the risk

of permanent joint damage. If you have specific questions or problems maybe

someone here can help.

A few links are below together with the

symptoms for diagnosing RA. I hope some of these help you.

General information about RA

Spoon Theory – explaining RA to others

RA Criteria (Any 4 qualify for positive diagnosis)

1. Morning stiffness, lasting for at least an hour, present daily for

at least 6 weeks

2. Arthritis of 3 or more joints, lasting for at least 6 weeks

3. Arthritis of the hand joints, lasting for at least 6 weeks

4. Symmetric arthritis, lasting for at least 6 weeks

5. Rheumatoid nodules

6. Positive rheumatoid factor (blood test)

7. Joint changes on x-ray

I live in the dry part of Washington State so I don’t have terribly

cold winters and not wet at all. However, from reading RA boards for several

years I don’t notice any real difference in different parts of the

country. I do think being close to family can help a lot.

Please feel free to post often. God

bless.

Re: nausea

Hello, Im new to the group. After having a cervical fusion

I began having increased body aches and during my lastest physical I askedmy

primary doc to test for RA. The test came back that my levels were twice

what they should be (30) and she refered me to a rheumatologist. However

I cant get in to see him until October because he is so booked and he's the

only one accepted by my hmo. can an injury in one area of the body cause

you to get RA ? Also what can I expect from my rheumatologist ? I

also live in s.calif currently but want to move to connecticut to be closer to family. Do

any of you live in a climate with cold damp winters ?

Joyce
