Guest guest
Welcome to the board. The medication the doctor gave you that made you sick is likely to be Methotrexate. It usually comes in 2.5 mg pills, and you take multiple pills one day a week. It often causes stomach problems and mouth sores, so usually 1,000 mcg of Folic Acid per day is prescribed along with it to reduce the side effects. For many people the side effects diminish with time. Also it comes as an injection to bypass the stomach and that usually causes fewer side effects. It seems to be by far the most common treatment for RA and often it is sufficient by itself but others may require additional medications to control their RA. I think most people get RA in their smaller joints (hands and feet) and then come the elbows and knees, followed by the shoulders and hips. However, we have joints all over our bodies and RA can affect any of them so it is not unusual for some joints to be affected and not others. You may want to look up Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) because people with RA often have that as well. I don’t know much about it but I think some muscle-relaxers can help with that. God bless. I'm 30 years old and have RA. I have regular flare ups and am trying to figure out how to deal with this disease. It's rough for me because of my age and because it limits me from doing lots of things. I have it in my both my legs. It seems to be getting worse. My doctor gave me some arthritis medicine ( I can't remember the name) but it made me sick. Right now he's got me taking Ibuprofen (600mg) three times a day. I have another appointment with him next month for more tests. Does anyone else have RA in their legs?
