Guest guest
Dear Lynda and Ken My condolences on the passing away of Basil. I have not had a dog for decades because I find their demise very sad and painful. I am so glad that you have had good results with the methotrexate. I also live in the UK and hope we can touch base on NHS issues should they arise. Thursday, (27/03/080), I get a depo medrone shot and the prescription to MTX. God willing it will help me as much as it has helped you. What other drugs have you tried, may I ask? Regards Ken. Before taking the drug I thought I was going to die with the pain, I could not function, could not walk, get into or out of bed, get dressed, my life had ceased to function really. It took approx. 4 months before I started to feel the benefit of MTX, but slowly I feel I have partially returned to my old self. I still have lots of pain and many deformed joints, but without this drug I think my life was not worth living. I am hopefully moving on to an anti TNF soon if my rheumatologist can get funding for it (I live in UK and rely on our National Health Service, where all drugs and treatment is free) however, because these drugs are so expensive, permission still has to be granted to have them prescribed. My thoughts are with you. Try MTX - be patient remeber it takes time to work. I am sure you will find the same relief I have. God bless you, best wishes - from Lynda ps - my little West Highland terrier had to be euthanased today, he had bowel cancer. My husband Ken and I are traumatised, we loved him so much - his name was Basil and he was 11 years of age. Marcia Stoyle <marciastoyle > wrote: Carole and Ken, I took MTX for one year only. Guest guest
Dear Ken, Thank you for your kind thoughts in the loss of our little dog. Good luck with your appointment on the 27th March. You will start on a low dose of MTX and gradually work up to the full dosage (I take 8 tablets once per week now). In that time you will have 2 weekly blood tests, then reducing to once per month. I have had many cortisone injections into knees, wrists and ankles. I had a depo medrone injection approx. 4 months ago. The day following it the pain had reduced considerably, but I had a very strange reaction to it, I became scarlet red all over the face and the chest and arms. Also had very severe palpitations and had to be admitted to hospital. I have been told I cannot have any more injections of this drug, which is a great shame because the results were fantastic for the pain !! Do not worry though, this does not happen often I was told, and I hope you get the same pain relief as I did (it lasted for approx 6 weeks by the way) and that you do not suffer this side effect. I find the side effects debilitating of MTX but honestly, I could not function any more with the pain levels I was undergoing, so am grateful for this drug. Hope I can get anti-TNF soon if funding allowed. Best wishes - Lynda ps - let us know how you get on with your appointment, and good luck !
