Guest guest
Maybe it’s just my computer but I haven’t seen anything on this forum for quite a while. I can’t definitely answer your question but I do think your rheumatologist is not completely right. So little is really understood about RA that it’s hard to make any blanket statements about it. I haven’t read of the specific mix you mentioned but I have read of a lot of people who have been helped by some changes in diet because of RA. The problem is people are all different so what works wonders for one might do nothing for someone else. My RA is pretty well controlled with Remicade and Methotrexate so I haven’t really tried to study diet changes for myself. However, I do think the way to see if something works to help your RA is to do an elimination diet to see if you have any food sensitivities. I haven’t tried it but it is a long, difficult process that requires a lot of discipline. Some people essentially get rid of their RA and others find that no change in diet will help them. The principle as I understand it is to go on a bland diet not likely to cause food sensitivities for a few weeks or so to see if your RA improves. If it does, slowly add in one food group at a time to see if that is your problem. I haven’t studied it enough to see what is meant by “food group” or how many there are. The link below is one of many that describe elimination diets. I hope you find something that works for you. God bless. http://www.drcranton.com/elimination_diet.htm From: Rheumatoid Arthritis [mailto:Rheumatoid Arthritis ] On Behalf Of i_live_in_slippers Sent: Friday, August 22, 2008 11:21 AM Rheumatoid Arthritis Subject: Certo & Grape Juice??? For a long time now I've read Dr. Gott's advice on trying Certo mixed with grape juice to ease discomfort from arthritis. Not really believing it but it's in there pretty regularly so yesterday I bought some (I dont know why I decided to try it now) and am drinking my first glass right now. I'm also trying to diet so I'm not that happy about the 140cal in the grape juice but figure I am willing to add them into my daily intake if it works. Quesion: Is this going to work for RA not just OA pains? I've asked my rheumy about alot of the over the counter things and herbs/vitamins and she says most of those things might help with OA but that RA is a disease and really won't be affected one way or another by any of it. So now I'm wondering about this pectin juice concoction, because Dr. Gott never states which or all arthritis can be helped by it.
