I am on a sulfa based drug too. One very humid day I felt like a heavy wet noodle but I have never delt with humidity well. > 11:37:00 >
Guest guest
I cannot go out in the sun. I spent a day in the sun while in Mexico and had one the worst flares of my life. I also cannot tolerate heat at all. > > I was having a good couple of weeks, then I sat out in the sun and swam > yesterday for about 4 hours. Guest guest
My guess is that the amount of exercise you did caused a flare and your body takes a while to recover from it. Unfortunately when we have fun we often pay for it. God bless. Guest guest
Thanks, Harold! Yes, I got a bit of exercise…getting ready for the kids to come over, cleaning up, etc. I just never had it so bad that I couldn’t walk at all! I was ready for the hospital, but my husband wondered what they could have done for me. I have Tramadol and took 1, but it didn’t cut through the pain. I was crying for hours. Do you know whether or not they could have done anything for me at the hospital??? I’m feeling much better, but just tired. I want to know what to do next time this happens (hopefully it won’t). So if any of you have suggestions on “HOW TO DEAL WITH A WICKED FLARE”, I’d be happy to know. Thanks, group! Guest guest
Dear , I have not been able to swim for more than 5 minutes for the past 5 years or so now, so to swim for 4 hours is amazing. I am not surprised you were in trouble after this mega amount of exercise !! Me personally - I have to pace myself all of the time, can walk for a short amount only, gardening the same, standing is also a paced regime. Unfortunately my RA has taken my body over and now I just have to obey it and do what I can even in very small does, best wishes - Lynda From: <karenbeyke@...>Subject: Does sun affect RA?Rheumatoid Arthritis Date: Thursday, 2 July, 2009, 4:32 PM I was having a good couple of weeks, then I sat out in the sun and swam yesterday for about 4 hours. Guest guest
The only treatments that I can think of are rest, pain killers, and Prednisone. Usually one or more of those work for me. The only really helpful one is rest, but sometimes one or both of the others are necessary in addition to the rest. At least nobody can take away the memories of a fun day in the water. God bless. Guest guest
Dear - Flares can be very devastating and varied. The key is moderation. Do moderate exercise. This means start small and work your way up. Swim 5 minutes and work up to four hours over the space of several weeks. Lupus is a kissing cousin of RA and Sun can and will affect you the same with rashes, heat stroke etc. Also your core body temperature is usually higher than a healthy person so when you expose yourself to heat and exercise your RA is programmed to trigger. Consider Sun and over exertion as triggers, just as effective as any emotional or physical stress that cause a flare.
