I agree (some of the myths may be true for some people). And when you change

your age, diet, of overall physical condition,

the body will respond differently. One that (I think) I'm sure of, is if you

train one way for a long time -you max

out on the gains you can get from it, then doing something that might not work

for others, will work well for you.

To answer your question: I see science as the tool, and the

sport/exercise/body-building is the art.

There are numerous myths about bodybuilding, fitness, health, sport

and exercise.

However, is it reasonable to say that some of those myths could be

true for certain individuals? Research is no doubt an important

factor in any science. However, shouldn't we also take into account

that sometimes even, though the research states one thing the

individual may respond differently?

For example, research states that hypertrophy is created the most

efficiently and effectively with the use of 8-12 reps (that is

debatable, but for some individuals they may respond greatly to

higher or lower reps.

[These are valid points that we have discussed quite frequently, but

we always need to remember that the placebo effect may also come into

play in some situations, as well as the fact what works now may not

necessarily work tomorrow, even for the same person. All of these

exceptions and confounding issues provide fertile territory for anyone

to set up shop, become the local guru on the block, and make a lucrative

business out of fitness mythology, especially if one has good marketing

and persuasive skills. Mel Siff]

As recently one has discussed MAN and DIET. Man is different one

must take into account the climate, the environment, the age, the

genetics, etc etc.

Is sport and exercise science a science or an art? Or both?
