Deborah,

So sorry to hear

of this.  Like you, I’m on Actonel, so your experience worries me.  Do

you have any info on the class action suit you mentioned?  By the way, I read

EVERY WORD of those long, small-printed inserts that come with meds.  Everyone

should.  You’d be amazed what you learn:  how many monkeys were blinded

or mice that keeled over.  I used to work for a drug company 25 years ago and

it was my job to keep tabs from docs who reported complications with drugs.   They

all have effects, but the question is one of acceptable risk.  I have no idea

what’s acceptable these days.

Actonel and Oral Surgery anyone?

Hi all- Since Actonel causes bone resorption, my teeth

are fused to my jawbone so an extraction is not possible. I have been off

actonel for 2 years. The oral surgeon had to SHAVE the tooth off the bone,

leaving the infected root in. I got severe recurrent infections over a period

of many months and then a massive abscess that solved with high anti-biotic. My

oral surgeon was at a total loss of what to do. Having a root canal and being

immuno suppressed also leaves me at high risk of infection. I have three more

teeth with old deep filling that are cracking so have to have it done again. I

am afraid because its an upper molar and the infections are so insidious that I

fear it could compromise my sight, hearing, or even be fatal if it gets into my

brain. I am going to have my PCP refer me to an Ear nose and Throat Specialist

for my aftercare and hope they can catch an infection before it gets out of

control. Has anyone else had this happen to them and can you share your

experience. I am ready to join the class action Actonel suit because I didnt

need to be on actonel, but leucovorin which is calcium and helps with bone as

well. No one told me the risks and its got me very angry. I think of everyone

on a biophosphate and the cavalier way RX are handed with patients never

knowing the risks. Thanks, Deborah

Hi - I would look through your local phone book to find a lawyer.  You can also google. Actonel Class Action and your state.  I am looking into it in my state as we speak.  Remember to be extremely careful with your dental care.  Get a cleaning with x-rays every 6 months ( fillings especially.  Floss twice a day and use a flouride all in once rinse that strengthens teeth, fights bacteria and plaque up to four times a day.  If you have a dry mouth, be sure to get an additional moisturing rinse. I forget the name.........its Biotene I think.  If I find out anything in addition I will of course let you know.  Yours, Deborah

Hi, Deborah and

thanks for the info. By the way, I am a lawyer, but haven’t heard of this

suit, so I’ll have to check online. I represent cities, so I wouldn’t normally

come across a product suit. Thanks for the info!

Hi - I am really glad to have brought it up.  I saw the oral surgeon today and he said he has alot of patients on it that are simply shocked when they have to have a tooth out.  I myself am facing a root canal which being on disability I cannot afford but somehow have to.  Medicare wont pay for it so I either have to let the tooth abscess to have our version of medicaid cover an oral surgery  or pay for a root canal over time.  I can still get an infection but the alternative is life threatening so the oral surgeon says its either a root canal or your putting your life at risk. Be well. Deborah
