Remember that every biologic affects your immune system. Most people

with an auto immune disease wont take certain precautions. Stay away

from people as much as possible. Remember to keep your distance and

use sanitizer if someone at work or at home is sick. I am on remicade

since 2000 and part of the reason it still works is that I studied how

it works and why it works. I try to minimize side effects. One of

the huge things is infusion timing. Most centers just want to get you

in and out. Try to demand they infuse you slowly. Diluting the

medication while it is being administered into your system during an

infusion helps also.

I drink gatorade and water continuously. Sometimes your body is too

smart. It finds a way around the medication. Sometimes your body is

already so depleted by the disease your system is at risk. Some people

dont adhere to the doctors orders and that affects outcomes as well.

RA is parasitic in nature and can evolve into more serious ailments

like have RA and Lupus together. Your weight and diet and overall

nutrition play a role as well. You have to make a conscious choice to

read and advocate for yourself when it comes to biologics and meds in

general. You have to weigh the risks as well as the benefits. Is the

side effect temporary? Can you live with or tolerate it? Is there

something you can take in addition to minimize the side effects?

Usually taking benadryl or another anti histamine will help with that.

Harold has always given excellent advice. This is from his own experiences and what he has read and researched. I have theid humira and it took three months to feel any relief. That is what is meant by patience and impatient. I was impatient for the drug to work and learned to be patient and relief may come.

I do not tell you this for sympathy. I don't want sympathy from anyone. What I want people on this list to realize is that I have had the disease for a long time and I know what many people are going through, including Marika. There are times when the disease just turns a person inside out and it is difficult to cope. When she read that the disease "teaches patience," that was the straw that broke the camel's back. Marika is frustrated, angry and in pain and those words set her off. Whether it was appropriate or inappropriate, does not matter. What matters is that Marika is hurting.

I hope that Marika does not unsub from the list. I always read her emails and especially enjoy hearing about her little dog. I care about you Marika, I really do, and I hope that we can all move past this. Looking back at the often times cruel nature of our disease, it's a wonder there isn't more infighting among us.

Harold says that he appreciates his defenders but also has sympathy for Marika. Can't we all do the same?

Isn't it obvious to everyone that Marika is having a really hard time finding something that works for her that is not making her deathly ill. She is just venting and unfortunatly it was on Harold. We all love and admire Harolds help and know that is repeatedly tells us that he is not a doctor or medically trained. I think we should all just let it slide what Marika is saying right now and have some sympathy for her. Marika I hope you find something that works for you. Have you thought of seeing someone like a therapist to talk to so you can vent there. If not feel free to vent here but please try to think of others feelings also. I hate to see the attacks on each other in this group. Harold is a very sensitive person or he wouldnt post and try to help others. He was just stating that you cant expect and

overnight miracle with RA meds and you have to have patients to find out if it works. Most RA meds will take a few months or longer to get positive results..If you are feeling worse on the meds however stop taking them. You should start feeling some little relief when you start them but the meds are not a cure.

Marika,

Please do not write to me anymore since you just keep insulting me. If anyone is curious what happened, I stuck up for Harold and she wrote me a nasty email. I replied to her privately, not thinking this was a group issue but just to make sure I did not do anything insevsative, I have included what I wrote to her after her email. I feel sorry for you Marika. We all care about the people who are in pain and that is why I felt it was inexcusable for you to rip on Harold. Research is good and so are life experiences. I am just in the early stages of the disease and I appreciate all of the support people have to offer. To ask if I ever cared about my mother is just downright mean. Read your own emails to us all and you will see that you are the one being insensitive. Good luck. I hope you find a group that better meets your needs.

Jean

My previous email which came after receiving a nasty email for just sticking up for Harold.

Wow Marika. I'm not a sensative person?! You just really hurt my feelings and you made me cry. I am the one who asked you what part of the country you lived in when you said that you needed surgery to see if anyone from this group could help you. I can't believe how mean your email was. I'm sorry that you are in pain and so bitter but people come to this site for information, advice and support. I thought you were pretty rough on Harold, who was trying to help. How could you ask me if I'm satisfied that you almost died from pheumonia? My mom died from pheumonia. I don't think that I've ever been so offended. All I did is said that we shouldn't rip on each other. This may sound insensative but you may want to reflect on how you talk to people. It might explain why you don't have any people close to you to help you. When you sent me an email

telling me that I made your day by showing that I cared, I showed it to my 11-year old daughter to show her how important it is to reach out to others. You really made me smile. I will not be showing her your last email. It does not teach a very good lesson.

Take care. I truely wish you well and that you find relief for your pain.

Please don’t be concerned about me because I have a very

thick skin. Marika obviously has severe problems with her RA and is

taking it out on me. I don’t know what I said to offend her and it

was not my intent, but I am willing to let it slide and to pray for her.

I do feel sorry for others including Marika but I also have enough ego that I

do not feel sorry for myself. Marika’s anger is her problem unless

I choose to make it mine, and I do not choose to do that. Please just

drop this subject. I do appreciate my defenders but I also sympathize

with Marika. God bless.

Well said Harold!!!

Harold has always given excellent advice. This is from his own experiences and what he has read and researched. I have theid humira and it took three months to feel any relief. That is what is meant by patience and impatient. I was impatient for the drug to work and learned to be patient and relief may come.

If you don't like what is said here, why don't you leave?

Vicki

> HaroldDood for youjust because a medication is working for you, it is so sad you telling us RA does teach patience, and severely punishes impationsyou dont seem like a sensitive person to me,you are not a Dr , so what gives you the right to criticeEvery person reacts to a medication differently.for some it works, for otheres it does not.dissapointedMarika> From: rheumatoid_arthriti sgroups (DOT) com> [mailto:rheumatoid_arthriti sgroups (DOT) com] On Behalf Of > Sent: Sunday, June 07, 2009 9:52 AM> rheumatoid_arthriti sgroups (DOT) com> Subject: RE: [rheumatoid_ arthritis] humira ?> > Thanks for the link, Deborah.
