Guest guest
I'd like to thank the folks that responded to my post. I have an appointment with my rheumy on 4-23. At my last appointment in December she explained why she wanted to put me on Imuran versus Methotrexate but to be honest with you I forgot why. At this appointment I will talk to her again about it. She will have results of my latest blood tests which I know is going to show inflammation. I am in a serious flare right now. In response to my asking my rheumy to put me on Cyclosporine because I am on Placquenil I have to have my eyes checked every 6 months. I see my ophthalmologist on 4-21 at that appointment I will talk to her about putting me on Cyclosporine. Audrey M Grey-Lowry
Guest guest
Audrey- You should know that when I was first diagnosed with RA and I didnt respond to MTX, cyclosporine was experimental. It put my disease in remission for 5 years. It was accompanied by MTX, a low dose prednisone, plaquenil and Ibuprofen. Cyclosporine is used for transplant rejection and since your body is in essence rejecting itself, it can be used effectively. It has TNF blocking properties, anti- malarial properties as well as other benefits. It is a soil fungus. Yes, just funky soil. Using too much Ibuprofen can enhance the effects of Cyclosporine so your kidneys will be monitored closely. It can cause a spike in your creatine levels but with regular blood tests you should have no problem. Be sure to go to www.google.com and type in " Cyclosporine for RA " and in a seperate search biologics for Rheumatoid . Arthritis Email me anytime.
