I get the same thing. Always when pain hits me and I dont stop it with my vicodin before it hits me hard. Sometimes I will feel feverish first then I realize its time for my vicodin. I've never asked my doctor about it though because its such a small fever. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one feeling that way though.

I'm sure this question has been asked before but I'm asking again, I asked my old rheumy about it an he said he never heard of it happening before. I asked the new Dr about it an he never did answer me, when I get a fever it's a low grade one. The last fever I had it was about 100.2 the most it's been was 100.4, I usually take something for the fevers or lay down with a fan blowing me. When I get a fever all my joints start hurting, this lasts for a few days. I know everyone is different when it comes to their RA. I had a nurse tell me that I probably have a virus an my body is fighting it off with the low grade fever, sometimes I feel like yelling at the nurses an Drs for not giving me the right answers.

Before I had my RA under control with Rituxan infusions, I would get low grade fevers. It would be enough to make my teeth chatter, and I would ache horribly. Strangely, I wouldn't feel too bad during the day, but this would hit in the early evening. I would be so cold which made the aches worse. I would wrap up in warm blankets, with those heat wraps you warm up in the microwave and take a dose of Tylenol arthritis. Fortunately my rheumy took me seriously. Just because these folks have never heard of thing doesn't mean it isn't real. My PC ALWAYS takes my fevers seriously because of the RA. I recommend another doctor, preferable at a teaching hospital with research happening, if you can.Hugs, (in Western NY)Date: Sun Jun 28, 2009 10:13 am ((PDT))I'm sure this question has been asked

My teeth chatter when I get fever also sometime I think they are going to

chatter right out of my mouth so I try to control it. My husband tells me it's

nothing an will pass, the fever start early evenings me too. I keep tylenol on

hand for the fevers but It's like it builds it's self up little by little. As

for a new Rheumy I wish I could find a new one, I hate this one I have now same

goes for his nurse. With the price of gas now days it's hard to go to where the

good docs are at, plus it doesn't help that my husband's boss hates when he

takes time off from work so he can come with me to my appts. Thanks for

replying, now I need to hobble myself to my meds.

I was taking vicodin for the pain but never for the fever, I take tramadol(sp)

now for the pain plus tylenol arthritis but it doesn't help me with the fever or

the pain(tylenol) I just go to bed an hope like crazy it's gone by morning an

doesn't come back. I have to also be careful with the pain meds I also suffer

from migraine headaches an was told most pain meds could trigger a migraine.

Are you taking a biologic for your RA? Are you near a university medical

hospital? I do hope you can get help soon. My rheumatologist recommended me

for a study being conducted at our university hospital for rituxan. I qualified

because I had never been on a biologic for my RA, only MTX. This was a few

years ago. My last infusion was in January, and today I seem to be in

remission, because usually after 24 weeks, I need re-treatment; but I don't seem

to now. If I do flare, I can request re-treatment. Actually, the doctor who is

conducting my study is an allergist, but his practice is in Allergy,

Rheumatology and Immunology. So he has a tie-in with all of these.

All the best,

Nope no biologic just MTX, 8 pills every week. no where near a university the

closet one is a 4 to 5 hrs away. Here in North Dakota there isn't much for Docs

good ones anyway, could say you get what you pay for as far Drs and treatments.

I wish there was more choose from around here, maybe within the next yr someone

else will come here to treat all the ppl that have RA in this area.

The fever has always been a sign of pain to come for me, so I head it off before it hits me hard. I take naproxen with my vicodin too that probably helps the fever. I also get migraines but mine are always around my period. I wonder still if they have anything do to with RA, medication or my birth control pills. Nobody seems to give me answers they just give my maxalt.

For whatever reason my normal temperature with RA is about 96

degrees so maybe your temperature also normally runs low. If so then 100 might

be a pretty good fever. Just my guess. When I get a fever I just don’t feel

very good all over. God bless.

Dear Whispering-  Temporary spikes during a flare are common.  I refer to myself as a hotzone.  Low grade fevers are common.  You might also talk to your doctor about having your thyroid checked as imbalances are common.  When I started exhibiting symptoms my flares would come and the inflammation is so bad that my temp would spike to exactly what yours did.  You can go to www.google.com and type in to the search bar " RA Flares and Low Grade Fever " to find clinical proof to show your doctor.  Keep in mind that your bodys sedimention rate indicated how much inflammation is in your body and disease process itself sees your body as an infection so of course your temp will spike and your joints will hurt because flu like symptoms and fevers go hand in hand during that time.  Yours, Deborah

I do have a thyroid problem, I got a toxic goiter sitting on it I get it checked

every yr an it's not active, I have had it for 20 yrs now. I have talked to the

doc about whats going on an he wants me to keep track of how often I get a fever

during a flare, an how high it gets. He said he might have to up the dosage on

the MTX, right now I'm taking 8 pills a week he wants to go the full 10 a week

if it gets to bad the flares an fever that is. If that happens I'm sure I will

have to take more of the folic acid also, I'm still trying to learn as much as

possible about RA after 2 yrs of finding I have it.

Dear Whisper- It sounds as if your disease is not being managed effectively with MTX alone.  I would consider I biologic.  Medicare covers Remicade and most others.  Fevers mean activity in your inflammation and that will cause damage to your joints and also your organs over time.  You might consider Plaquenil and cyclosporine as well.   Cyclosporine is an old drug but still used today.  It managed my disease well until Remicade came out.  Its a soil fungus and comes in pill form.  Yours, Deborah

Dear Moon Whisperer etal,

For me, the NSAIDS that I take seem to keep my " normal temp " lowere as well

as disguising any fever of significance. I was septic with a kidney stone, and

never ran over 100 degrees. Is it unreasonable to assume many of us are on

NSAIDS and would have this issue?

So I never count on fever as an indicator. I'll take tylenol if I feel rough,

because there is so much viral illness to explain feeling crummy, and then if it

persists with joint swelling, call my rheumy.

I can tell you right now birth controls pills is a trigger for Migraines,

my ob/gyn was going to me on them but once he saw I suffer from migraines he

said nope cause it will cause migraines. I was getting migraines also before an

after my period but 5 yrs I had that taken care no more periods for me ever, I

still get migraines but they are stress related. By the way if the FDA pulls the

vicodin cause of what happen with MJ what are you going to do for a pain med?

for you sake I hope they keep it on the market.
