It's bad enough that you have the disease; you don't need a doctor who looks down on you as well. That doctor has a problem, not you, but unfortunately he has made his problem, yours. I receive treatment through an HMO and when I wanted to change rheumatologists (long story), I looked at the web pages of each rheumy that's associated with the HMO. I was impressed with one doctor, who said she spent years treating Native Americans on a reservation. She is a gifted doctor (now chief of rheumatology at the HMO) and chose to work there. I am now her patient . You deserve better than the doctor you have, and there *are* good rheumatologists out there, ones that will respect you. Good luck to you. Guest guest
What does a persons race have to deal with RA? RA does not pick a race as far as I know. The RA dr I have seems to have a problem with me being a Native american an having RA, same goes for his nurse. To me it seems they are a racist, I'm looking for a new dr 5 hrs from where I live I'm not going to take their crap anymore. I'm very proud of who an what I am if they can't deal with that then the hell with them.
Guest guest
There is a form of arthritis that is common in native americans, it is ankylosing spondylitis. My son has AS. It is associated with the HLA-B27 gene. I don't blame you for looking for another doctor. That is ridiculous. RA knows no race, color or creed!----- Original Message -----From: Roni Lynn <whisperingmoonwoman2001@...>Date: Tuesday, February 23, 2010 16:06Subject: RA an RaceRheumatoid Arthritis > What does a persons race have to deal with RA? Guest guest
I think this should be reported to the governmental agency that deals with medical treatments. I have no idea what this is as it varies from place to place. They may do nothing, but unless they know of this malpractice they can do nothing. I hope you find a way to get effective treatment. God bless. Guest guest
I reported it to the dr that made the referrel an she said he had no right to ask me that kind of question, what really got me pissed is when he asked how much Indian my mom (rip) was when I tried to tell him he said oh she was pretty much white then huh in a snoty way he said this. This dr comes from a other country so what right does he have to judge me, I don't judge him for his race. His nurse made a comment to another nurse about me, she said this one is IHS (Indian Health Service) so she is free, she said this loud enough I swear the whole clinic heard her. I do have health Ins thru my husband's job which is really good ins, but all they saw was IHS an nothing else. When my hubby come with me in the room when I an appt this dr is totally different but when I'm by myself he treats me like I'm lower then dirt an he should be wasting his time on me. I have an appt with him in april an my hubby is coming with me, if the dr says anything to me about being Indian I'm going to sue his ass but good. --- In Rheumatoid Arthritis , " Harold Van Tuyl " <hvantuyl@...> wrote: > > I think this should be reported to the governmental agency that deals with > medical treatments. Guest guest
I would not be offended. I was asked this question too. I do have some Native American in my ancestors. In my research it is more common in Native Americans. RA is very difficult to diagnose and they use all info they can gather to get a diagnosis. I remember when they checked me for STD's but some symptoms can be the same for RA too. It is a matter of ruling out everything else. My Mom and Gr. Mom both had RA. Guest guest
Research is key to any diagnosis. Do not be offended, it was not meant to be a racial slight. In my business, the more info the better!!! http://www.nchpeg.org/raceandgenetics/index.asp Forsythe Curran-Private Investigator------ Original Message -----From: "Boxermama" <maryrue@...>"rheumatoid arthritis" <Rheumatoid Arthritis >Sent: Wednesday, March 3, 2010 9:36:01 AM GMT -07:00 US/Canada MountainSubject: Re: RA an Race I would not be offended. Guest guest
I forgot to mention that there are some diseases that are found more in some races. An Example would be like Sickle Cell Anemia is more common in the Black Race.
