Leucovorin is a version of Folic Acid that is usually given

about once a week instead of daily. Some people have a preference for one or

the other but I think they do about the same thing with similar effectiveness.

If one doesn’t work there is no harm in trying the other or even both. Of

course, I’m not medically trained so check with your doctor before making any

changes. Your fatigue could be Chronic Fatigue Syndrome that often accompanies

RA. You might want to read about that. I don’t have it so I haven’t really

looked for treatments. I hope things improve when your medications start

working. God bless.

Methotrexate and RA have both

given me overwhelming fatigue. I have not been offered or heard of

Leucoviran. Can you tell me more? The fatigue feels

like I have concrete pajamas on, it is sooo hard to get moving and stay

active. Naps don't help, nor does extra sleep. It seems I

never wake up refreshed any more.

I have dealt with depression, but this feels very different than the indifferent

fatigue of that.

Leucovorin Calcium is given to patients who have slow clearance or have trouble removing MTX from the body.  I am one such.  You can ask for an Intavenous Injection of Leucovorin if the pills dont help.  I take my mtx at night and take leucovorin when I wake up.  Be sure to take a super multi vitamin and drink plenty of fluids.  You can double up on pills or get an IM injection.  It helps me.  Deborah

  • 2 years later...

I had that overwhelming fatigue. My allergist ran a check on my Vitamin D levels and it was VERY low. (I could not function. Drag myself out of bed. House fell apart. Lack of sleep, though I tried to sleep as often as I could. I am sure a regular doctor would have told me I was depressed and to take anti-depressant.)It took me two months at 12000 iu's per day to get to a normal level. Now, I take 2,000 iu's per day. My energy levels have drastically improved (within weeks) and I sleep much better. I also OP (oil pull) and I have NO backaches when I wake up. (Pain free was prior to taking aspirin.)I am like a new person these days! =)I hope you find your answers soon. I know what you are going through and IT IS AWFUL. You can get better, you just have to dig around and find what

it is your body needs. Best of luck!

Hi Bianca,I used to feel like this too, but have had more energy to function and even think about holding down 3 part-time jobs. I have not had my vit-D levels checked, but have been taking 20ug vit D for a few months and this may have been what's helped my energy levels. i have certainly had a stronger immune system as everyone around me has had colds and (touch wood) I've felt my body fight off the colds.BeckyFrom: M Do <michellemdo@...>samters Sent: Sunday, 16 October 2011, 6:58Subject: Re: Overwhelming fatigue

My naturopath gave me some herbs for adrenals, but warned me not to use all the energy I get from them; in other words not to overdo it because of feeling more energy. I always have the problem of pushing myself too far and going into a state of collapse. On Oct 16, 2011, at 10:38 AM, wrote:

Fatigue has been a problem for me too. I think it's a Samter by-product.

Recently I made changes in my diet, and that has made all the difference. I have cut out foods that I was reactive to, and it has helped a lot.

Also exercise will build up your stamina, but you have to start out slowly, otherwise it will knock you out. Like 20 mins on a slow treadmill to start for a few days, then increase acordingly. Don't move to the next level until you feel you are ready. For some people it takes far longer.

I want to apologize in advance for prolonging this discussion -- but while I am often wrong and sloppy myself, and so could be wrong or sloppy here -- I really don't think it was the same supplement or product at all that the other guy mentioned. I may be wrong and it doesn't really matter. And even in his case, spam or not, a number of individuals did ask for the name of what he advocated. I perhaps shouldn't have posted the name of the supplement, as all I was asked for were ingredients. But to drag this thing out, while as I said I in no way endorse use of the stuff, I don't think it is sold the way the other stuff was, through individuals. I certainly don't sell it, but only posted the name in case someone was interested but didn't want to round up the individual ingredients. There was recently someone else who posted a link to a website that collects information on diseases and someone labeled that spam as well, when the person posting was trying to be helpful. i'm not defending spam of course, and there is a lot, and I'm sure overreacting to this whole discussion, but I think people should be careful about discouraging people who are trying to be helpful. Though maybe I should be discouraged more, and then I wouldn't go on at such length so unnecessarily. And of course Milakaa we hope you do keep posting. On Oct 20, 2011, at 11:17 AM, Milakaa wrote:

Recently I made changes in my diet, and that has made all the difference. I have cut out foods that I was reactive to, and it has helped a lot.

Also exercise will build up your stamina, but you have to start out slowly, otherwise it will knock you out. Like 20 mins on a slow treadmill to start for a few days, then increase acordingly. Don't move to the next level until you feel you are ready. For some people it takes far longer.

I think it is fine and useful to inform other members about products and discuss their composition, or share any other form of relevant experience for that matter, as long as there is appropriate disclosure and that the message is not equivalent to a sales pitch with the purpose of taking advantage of the group. The whole idea of groups is about sharing, and I am quite confident that we are all responsible and know what to post and what not to post. Besides, this group has a small membership, made of persons that have unfortunately been hardened, or even disillusioned, by a history of medical failures - or, at best, half-successes - and I am not really sure that it would make a good marketplace for anyone trying to peddle miracle cures.> >>>>>> > >>>>>>> > >>>>>>> > >>>>>>> Fatigue has been a problem for me too. I am a long time member of this group. I would say for about 8 years now, and I stopped posting and reading most of the stuff on here a long time ago, because anytime someone mentions that a natural herb, or product, or even diet helps them there is some negative feedback. None of the medically prescribed drugs that are talked about in this group have helped me. In most cases have made my condition worse, but seems as if its only accepted in this group. I found much knowledge and help in a natural diet, supplements, and a doctor I see in South Florida. I am glad I was able to help a few of you get to him too. I just can't believe that people actually think they can not eat one single fruit or vegetable because of this condition. Sent from my iPhoneOn Oct 20, 2011, at 4:00 PM, "asfy" <asfyso@...> wrote:

Since most of have used this forumn to learn how to manage this disease it would be a great injustice if we begin censoring content now. Idk where i would be if i didnt have the support of this group. If i left it to doctors id still be feeling hopeless, depressed and yes at times even suicidal. Please dont censor any post.....sometimes there are legitimate products that help and joan i asked u the name because i wanted to find out what could help with my fatigue and im grateful for your candid response. There was recently someone else who posted a link to a website that collects information on diseases and someone labeled that spam as well, when the person

posting was trying to be helpful. i'm not defending spam of course, and there is a lot, and I'm sure overreacting to this whole discussion, but I think people should be careful about discouraging people who are trying to be helpful. Though maybe I should be discouraged more, and then I wouldn't go on at such length so unnecessarily. And of course Milakaa we hope you do keep posting. On Oct 20, 2011, at 11:17 AM, Milakaa wrote:

Sry, not over reacting just remember the guy who posted same product. Wanted to see if same person, now that I see it is not no pun was intended...next time I will ask instead of saying bluntly. No I am not regular contributor but I frequently read all the post because I am learning, I would hope that I don't have to be regular contributor to make a post every now and then (of course w/o pointing a finger)?

Thanks Bianca. I was just trying to provide information about the supplement since you asked. I’m in no way advocating its use, and I tried to make this clear in my comments about the product. It's a supplement from Vital Nutrients called Energy Plus. Here's a list of the ingredients. I will not be posting anymore either since people are obviously blowing it out of proportion and I already apologized.
