Guest guest
I actually have low body temp--around 97.2F and that is supposed to be hormone related. thyroid << You know, this totally blows me away also. Every book I've ever read on RA says that it is associated to low grade fevers. I get low grade fevers once in awhile but not everytime I flare or herx. I can always tell when I have one, as I get slightly chilled and my cheeks are flushed. It rarely goes over 99.something. If I had not read this in all those books, I would of been alarmed about the fevers because the drs. never once mentioned them. Generally my main gripe is the awful fatigue and weakness. I have absolutley no stamina anymore to do anything. Carol >>
Guest guest
Another thing to keep in mind about fevers--if you are taking NSAIDs, they are lowering the fever, so what might be a low-grade 99.6 on the NSAID (or Tylenol) could easily be 101 or 102 without it. I had the flu earlier this winter, and found that Celebrex lowered my 102 fever to under 100. I don't get fevers from arthritis anymore, but my rheumatologist confirmed my observations a few years back. Guest guest
Carol, It is interesting that you get chilled and flushed cheeks with your fever because with mine I just feel like a warm sensation in my upper body, mostly face and chest and then it is gone. I am past menopause so I know it isn't that. But my fevers, if that is what they are don't hang around long. I sure don't mind them on a cold night, which is mostly when I get them. The odd time I have a flush and my face is damp but not often. I have noticed I don't get them nearly as much any more. Carol, I have the weakness too but it seems to come and go. I can go a long time, maybe months and be fine, then have a spell of weakness that doesn't relate to any other symptom. I hope your doesn't last long. It is a terrible feeling to not feel up to doing what you'd like. :>)) Bev > > You know, this totally blows me away also. Guest guest
Hi Bev!! Yours sound just like the hot flashes I get. Sometimes I get them that last a hour or so. If I just get some place to cool off and can stay put long enough they will go away. I don't think I have a fever during those. The fevers are different, they feel more like coming down with the flu. The weakness is worse at some times than others. Some days it is more than I can do to walk through the house. Then other days I feel pretty good and can go for a few hours before I need rest, and then it still isn't that same weak, exhausted feeling. I just hate those days. The fevers don't seem to last long either. I do know that in the stamina area, mine is pretty bad. I can't do anything all day like I used to without resting but I think that just goes with the RA. (Sad to say) They say that mine is not menopause but I think they are nuts. I think my hormones fluxuate and when they check them they are just okay. I've had hot flashes for over ten years but according to the doctors I was too young for menopause. Yeah, right. Going on the assumption that no one goes through menopause until they are fifty I guess he would be right! Guest guest
Hi Carol, I had a girlfriend who started menopause at 38 and my sister in law started hers at 43 so age after 35 doesn't seem to mean much at all. I think it has to do with genetics because I started the same time as my mom had and it lasted one year and was over with no fuss or bother at all. My RA started about the same time. Carol, I hope you get over the fatigue soon. That is one symptom I hate and am glad I rarely get it except during a flare or herx. I have been feeling great since I cut my dose down. I didn't find the flushes uncomfortable at all and seem to have them mostly in the winter. Good deal eh!! Saves on heat. LOL I don't know if they are hormonal or thyroid related but there must be an answer. I think they are RA related for sure. When I was sitting yesterday, I had a flush episode and it just came and went within seconds. It is so weird. Bev > Hi Bev!! > Yours sound just like the hot flashes I get. Guest guest
I've been talking about DHEA with Lisbeth. My worry is how much to take? How much do you take and anyone else? I'm seeing my GP on Monday and I'm going to ask him specifically what hormones were checked. >I dont get the flushes anymore since I take the DHEA. > > > >--
Guest guest
My doc tests for DHEA and right now he recommends I take 25mg. I just had labs done and he checked that and my thyroid and adreanls and will tell me it I should take less. Carol wrote: > > From: Carol <carscott@...> > > I've been talking about DHEA with Lisbeth. Guest guest
Ursula, When we first took Kelsey to the doctor, one of the symptoms she was having along with her joint pain and swelling was low grade fever (99-100) that seemed to come and go, mostly in the late afternoons and evenings. Her doctor told us that with jra (Kelsey has poly) this was normal. I can only speak from our experiences with Kelsey, so hopefully you will get more info from others in the group that can help you better. Take care,

Guest guest
Robbin, Did the menigitis bring out her jra? I've heard from several people that they never had any arthritis until they had a bad infection or virus. Kelsey had a severe case of the flu last year with a fever of 105.9... nearly had pneumonia... and about a month later is when she started having problems with her knee. Guest guest
At first I thought I wrote this cause it looks like my type and a question I posed. Since then did a little checking in the drug guides. Fever/chills can be a side effect, although it was mentioned as less common. I think it is probably a common one though, since I see this mentioned a lot. It happened to me as well. Low grade about 99.9. Some flushing too. One thing I thought of since then ... is this, when we have any foreign invader be it metals, virus or bacteria the immune system will try to remove it/fight it. When it goes through this process it can result in a fever. I think that these fevers could be a combination of both side effect and immune system alert. Guest guest
Kathy, Roll up a towel. Place it inside the helmet so it is putting slight pressure on the inside. If you have a doc band close the velcro like you normally would and then put the towel inside the band. This "holds" its shape. Don't force it. You just want some light pressure like JT's head would provide. HTH Re: Fevers Hi ,Jt has a fever, what do you mean put a towel in it? I am trying to figure it out now. Thanks for your post! Guest guest
Lynda: Exactly what autoimmune disease were you diagnosed with? Are you in remition now? You mentioned the leaking silicone as being the cause and I agree, that is why I am concerned that she did not have all the capsule removed. Anyhow it is all variable. I know used to get fevers all the time too, and I am not sure if they are all gone now or not but I know she had them and never was really diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. Anyhow,it can be so confusing. I never had any fevers, but I did have the elevated ANA that I am sure had I waited longer to remove the implants would have turned into something nasty. thanks for your input In , Lynda <coss@p...> wrote: > I had the same thing, it was the autoimmune disease. > > Lynda > > > At 10:19 PM 6/13/2004, you wrote: > >Are the fevers your describing low grade temps or high? Guest guest
The question would be which ones I have not been diagnosed with. I really think that most of us have a lupus-like condition, but in 1994 I was diagnosed with lupus. I have been diagnosed with mixed connective tissue disease. I have been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy. I have been diagnosed with Raynaud's. I have been diagnosed with Sjogren's. Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, etc. Take your pick. I do have Fibromyalgia, and a lupus-like problem. Lynda At 10:36 PM 6/13/2004, you wrote: >Lynda: >Exactly what autoimmune disease were you diagnosed with? Are you in >remition now?
