Hi

If you donate to the Arthritis Foundation, you will receive the magazine "Arthritis Today," which is published every two months, I believe.

It always contains low-impact exercises geared especially for us, and lots more information, including nutrition, meds, simple steps you can take to make life easier, etc. When I'm done with an issue, I take it to my Rheumy's office and leave it for others. One time, I set the magazine down, then went to check in. A minute later, I saw that someone had already picked up Arthritis Today and was reading it :). The magazine is always gone the next time I have an appointment, so I know it's being "recycled."

If you can't afford to donate, or don't want to, please check out www.arthritis.org, the foundation's website. There's lots of information available there online, including fitness tips and information on exercise videos: http://www.arthritistoday.org/fitness/index.php.

If you still can't find anything, you're welcome to come to my house and weed my yard :))).

Regards,

I think that taking yourself to the mall to walk would be a change.  Also they have resistance bands you can use for your arms and feet.  Pilates also into high impact or mild yoga.  Maybe a treadmill??  You can watch T.V. or listen to music etc.  There are specific activites like pool therapy for RA patients or Osteo.  Talk to your local arthritis support chapter or your RD......  Glad to hear you are active.  Its inspirational to us all.  Deborah B.

Hellow,

I'm doing fairly well with my RA. I've been riding my excercise bike for 3 months and walking for 30 minutes when the weather/time permits. This last week I've struggled making myself ride my bike because it's getting really boring, so I want to add some variety to my exercise plan.

Does anyone know of a good low-impact aerobics DVD that worked for you or someone else who has RA? I've looked used Google and didn't find any useful info. I looked at Amazon which list different low-impact aerobics DVDs. However, I worried they will end-up causing me to have pain in my ankles, knees and wrists.

Looking on-line, I've read that jogging (which I know hurts me) and lifting heavy weights isn't for those of us with RA. I did find some articles that mentioned low-impact aerobics, but I can't find a DVD geared towards RA patients. I wish I could attend an Arthritis workout at the swimming pool, but the time they are offered don't work with my schedule.

Thanks,

Jean

,

Thanks for the links. I looked at the exercise videos and I see some that I'm

going to try. Also, I found through the srthritistoday.org website where there

is a 2nd place for arthritis water aerobics which has a time which might work

for me.

So kind of you to offer to let me weed your yard, as I'm sure you would miss

doing it yourself or paying someone to do it. :)

Deborah,

I forgot about mall walking which I did for 3 months a couple years ago. That's

something I can do when the weather doesn't permit walking. The only bad part is

being tempted to look in the stores which ends up costing me money. Wish I had

the space for a treadmill, but I don't.

You might want to have a meeting or two with a personal trainer

to make sure you are doing appropriate exercises. I’ve never used one but I‘ve

heard good things about them. God bless.

I think in the United States they give a one-year subscription

free and then I think it’s below $20 per year after that. God bless.
