Guest guest
Hello everyone - It's been a while since I posted, but I'll give you the scoop. As usual, weird stuff always happens to me. Last Tuesday night, I had a severe pain and swelling under the bottom of my left foot/big toe/ball of my foot to the point I could not put any weight on my left foot. I rubbed down with Aspercreme before I went to bed. The next morning, I was in pain and made an appointment with the doctor. My PCP was out so I saw one of his colleagues who promptly diagnosed me with gout, gave me a cortizone dose pack and vicodin. He took x-rays and blood. The x-rays came back normal. Mine you my toe was not swollen or hurting. The dose pack reduced the swelling and some of the pain, but I was still in pain and hobbling along in tennis shoes. The vicodin did nothing for the pain. Monday the PCP nurse called and said my blood test were also negative. So I called my Rheumy and saw his PA this past Thursday. I told her I don't think I have gout but rather sesamoiditis based on the symptoms. She does a physical exam and concurs with my thoughts; gave me another cortizone shot and dose pack prescription and tells me to drop the vicodin. She says gout would have been at the bottom of her diagnosis list. And that I'll probably injured my foot and didnt' realize it--this will probably pop up from time to time. She also said firmly that any time I have any type of pain--joint or muscular to come to their office and not the PCP. While at the appointment, she gave me my January bone scan results. Basically, the RA " hot spots " were my hands, shoulders, hips, and left knee. The rheumy has started me on Simponi. I take my first shot in the office this week. If anyone has an opinion on Simponi, feel free to let me know what you think of it--good, bad, or indifferent. So far I've failed Methotrexate, Humira, and Enbrel. So what the hey?
