Guest guest
Doctors use antidepressants in pain syndromes. They are also used for neuropathy, that tingling and numbness in the feet that afflicts diabetics. Antidepressants, though labelled as such, have other uses as well. But some people find it a 'stigma' to be on them...just my 2 cents. , RN, 48, RA diagnosed at age 41, though I had symptoms for decades earlier----- Original Message -----From: BeingIrish@...Date: Sunday, April 26, 2009 2:59Subject: Re: natural medsRheumatoid Arthritis > > In a message dated 4/25/09 8:13:35 PM, dbargad@... writes:> > > > Anti depressants are a matter of course with any chronic disease.> > ______________________________________> > I disagree. Guest guest
I agree, while I am not pill taking unless you have to, having fibromyalgia before this ? RA dr. apt on May 1 to see what is going on with me, I have had to take them for sleep and help with the pain. I was cautious and weaned off many times to try without. Ambien came into the picture so my sleep problem was addressed differently but even now, I try and not use the Ambien or cut in half. If I could sleep without more pain, I would go with out but I need rest. Many drugs these days work for other than what they were first prescribed for. Guest guest
I know that antidepressants are used for other conditions, including neuropathy. Nortriptyline is one such medicine, but when it is used for neuropathy, it is in very low doses, much lower than that used to treat depression. My concern is when antidepressants are routinely prescribed for depression by doctors just because the patient has a chronic disease, without determining whether or not she is depressed and whether or not the medication is necessary or appropriate. Antidepressants have saved many lives and should be taken by people who are depressed. I don't see a stigma in taking antidepressants. However, I am not depressed, I don't need them, and I don't want to take them just because I have a chronic disease. That was my point.**************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. Guest guest
Well stated and I agree. I am also not depressed but some of my employees have thought I was a carrier because I made them depressed. God bless. Guest guest
I can understand how you feel, I didn't want them either but they helped me twice out of a bad period, and believe me it was bad. Have had this since 89 and only took them twice and weaned off after a month and was able to go back to managing. And all these years have just managed on Tylenol, ibuprofen and tramadol and just working through it. Was really hard to do that, I stayed in bed and missed work, etc. and then 10 years later just lived through it. Wish I could do that now with these RA symptoms. That's the one thing about fm it was a really short term disabling and not body harmful, if I have RA this is a whole new ball game and the meds are scary and not cheap. I'd go back to just fm any time, this is too painful and scary. Well, hope for better days ahead for all!
