Guest guest
No but we are thinking of starting it for our son Louis, systemic JRA age 8, this summer. What have you heard about the rituximab? Do you mind if I ask what hospital and dr the study is through? Thanks Jan (mom) rituximab Hello everyone. This is Bob Tilk, father of Mitch Tilk (systemic for 14 years). I just did a quick search and found that it has been over two years since I last posted. Wow! Mitch has recently been asked to do a clinical study of rituximab and he will probably go ahead with it but I thought that I should ask the people that know more about living with arthritis that anyone else - you, the parents of kids that live with arthritis. Does anyone have any personal experience with b-cell reduction therapy? in particular rituximab (Rituxan, Mabthera)? Thanks ps. Mitch just finished 1st year political science at university. Guest guest
I received Rituximab alone, 7 years ago, M, W, F for 4 weeks and was able to work immediately after and drive, although I did not need to drive to get back to work. During my treatment I would take naps which probably helped. Since my treatments were in the morning I at times would lose energy in the afternoon and go home. I think you should be fine driving and then returning to work Monday but everyone is different.
Guest guest
I agree with Mike Cole. I've had 3 treatments of Rituximab alone and with FC. My doctors office doesn't start treatments until 10 a.m. First is a Saline solution, the benadryl (makes me very sleepy) then Rituxin for about 3 1/2 - 4 hours. They normally won't let patients drive because of the benadryl. I'm always fine later in the day. Good luck
Guest guest
I had Rituxan weekly x4 three times for my kidney involvement. I agree that you should start to hydrate the day before. What makes life easier for the nurses will make life easier for you. The protocol at UCLA is to split the first infusion over two days to prevent a reaction and to give 50mg of Benedryl IV before treatment. They did not allow anyone to drive for 6 hours post Benedryl. One patient in the past lied about leaving, got into an accident, and then sued the nurse who was assigned to him that day. I found that I did not feel secure about driving for seven or eight hours. I would usually stay near the university and go to work from there in the morning. I did not have bothersome side effects, though having the weekend to recover sounds like a good plan. Be sure to keep hydrating after the treatment as well. You may need more than Friday afternoon, especially if you have to have labs done at the facility first. It also sometimes took a while to get the medication from the pharmacy to the treatment room. Pat
Guest guest
My husband just finished 6 rounds of BR which is Bendamustine and Rituximab. He had no problem driving himself home and felt fine the rest of the day. He was given the treatment over two days. Seven hours the first day and 4 hours the second day. Due to the anti-nausea medications and benedryl given along with the BR he had no nausea until the third day. He learned to go ahead and take the nausea medication the day after the first day of treatment and continue it for a few days. He was pretty wiped out the first week after. He is retired so doesn't have to worry about a job. He is 63. Best of luck to you. Marcia
Guest guest
I had Rituxan 8 doses 1 week apart. First day goes slow for possible reaction then the next 7 times only 3-4 hours. I can walk home about 1 mile and then drive or do what ever I want. I feel fine. I am retired RN but I could have gone to work or play. Hope this helps.
