Guest guest
I went to the Birkenstock store today and came out with a pair of Mephisto sandals that are the most comfortable shoes I have ever had on my feet!! They cost over $100 but they are supposed to last forever. Martha
Guest guest
Hi all, Thank you all for the great advise on the shoes. I've been happily shopping for a couple of weeks and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I've tried, Birkenstock and they are too hard for my feet. My feet need softer insoles as they hurt on the cork. I've tried SAS, finally found them, they are soft and felt good untill I began to walk in them and my toe on my right foot kept sliding off the insole area. The toe area was to narrow for me. s were also hard on my feet. and many more. I finally purchased two pairs. A style called Soft Moc. They are soft leather with velcro strapps for adjustment when my feet swell. The other is a slip on more casual called ECCO. They are great to wear when I am around the house as slippers. They have three adjustable stapps and all leather with a rubber sole. Since I have been wearing these sandles from ecco my sore knee had gone away. My feet also feel like they are resting. It's hard to explain. I guess all of our feet are different. So after trying on about a hundred different pairs I got lucky. ONce again thank you all for the imput. I am leaving for vacation to Europe on July 3, 2000 for three weeks. I will be taking myselt off the list for that time. But will definitely return to tell you all about my trip and how the shoes held up. You all really cheer my up every day when I read my email. I look forward to it everyday. I will still be on untill the weekened. . ----Original Message Follows---- From: donna conklin <rdconklin_2000@...> Reply- egroups egroups Subject: Re: [ ] Thanks you! Date: Mon, 26 Jun 2000 06:45:26 -0700 (PDT) Hello Again, I tried to email you last night but my " puter " was acting weird and I couldn't get it to send. To be honest I haven't found any thing in my area but EARTH SHOES that feel good. And those are sandles...the group tells me to get some BIRKENSTOCKS www.birkenstockmainstreet.com or 1-800-480-8991. They have sandles and clogs. They are supper expensive but they tell me they last forever. They have a cork base that molds to your foot. When that wears out you can get them recorked. The uppers are usually leather and soles are rubber or other materials. I haven't found a store in my area, but in Grand Rapids I am told there are some shoe stores that carry them. I never get to GR so ordered a catalog. Another shoe that is worn by the group is Mephisto and they are expensive also but wear good. www.mephisto.com Another one recommended was San Antoniio Shoe Co. Inc.101-T New Laredo Hwy, San , Texas 78211, (210)924-6561. I haven't found any of these either. I found my earth shoes at Wal-mart and they have a good rubber sole on the ones I have and they don't break down. I've had one pair for two summers. I have lived in them even in the winter inside with socks on. These shoes only cost me around $20.00. The pair I bought this summer are white, on the top is a leather oval piece with elastice crossing on the top one that expandes when my feet swell. I've been wearing these to church. I think I am going to order me some from Birkenstock. But I've got to be choosie because of the money factor. Birkenstock on line has a sales@... also. prices are quite a bit cheaper. Good luck and keep in touch...Donna ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
Guest guest
Hi , I still haven't bought my birks...I just keep waiting for some reason. Since you had trouble with them I bet I will too because of the big toe thing...where did you find the other shoes? So far I'm doining okay with the earth shoes but wonder about this winter. Have a great time in Europe...where are you going? Donna

I had the same problem with Birkenstocks, though so many people swear by them. I've, also, had much better luck with SAS and with Ecco (they're great, I agree), and also with Haflinger, a brand you didn't mention (but since you've had a similar experience to mine maybe you should! :-)))) I have their clogs and love them. Always on the lookout for more-comfy shoes .... some time when you have time -- this'll be after that fabulous-sounding European vacation, no doubt! -- there are an incredible number of Web sites that offer shoes you can't find easily in regular stores, including all the brands we've mentioned. Guest guest
My two cents again....for those of you, who's feet are not terribly bad, Nine West makes a line called Cloud Nine. They are very cushioiny shoes and fashionable. They are about the only thing I wear for work, everything else has me limping my the end of the day. Though I still haven't thrown out the expensive pumps, I keep hoping one day I can wear them again. __________________________________________________

I'm looking forward to hitting the big city this weekend and checking out those walking shoes. I sure would like to start exercising again. in ph Siebles in Ks. Guest guest
It would be the same type of store that sells Birkenstocks, rockport- -both other shoes that I can wear. The one I find is Overland Trading Company, but I don't know if you have that store in your area. in KS
Guest guest
Tery, My dad swears by New Balance. I've never tried them because I'm so in love with my RockSports, which is made by Rockport. They come in wide widths to accommodate my swelling. a [ ] Shoes When I got my new orthics the other day, my foot doc told me I need new shoes. I currently have SAS, they are very comfortable but I paid about $80.00 and they haven't held up very good at all. They are stretched out in the middle and he says I need more support there. Just curious what kind of shoes do ya'll were? Anyone ever tired New Balance? Suggestions please. Thanks. Tery

Hugs June >> June and all, Thanks for the advice on shoes. I did end up getting (well ordering) the one's June wears. I can't believe in a city this size I couldn't find a store that had them in stock. I finally found a guy would said he would order me a pair and should be in within 2 weeks, so I guess I'll hold my breath and hope he really orders them. June they cost $85.00 here, not sure if they would have been less if it wasn't a special order, but if I don't like them I don't have to buy them. Thanks again. Guest guest
Someone mentioned he had his wife's shoes custom made -- i would like to know who makes your shoes and info about them (Prices, quality, styles, etc) and maybe a link if they are online. Anyone else who has had shoes made please email with similar info. This past summer I had sandals made by Piper Sandal Co --- custom made - cost about $110 - took only about a week from ordering till I received them - very good quality - guaranteed to fit -mine fit perfect from day one - they are online can't remember the link right off but you can search for them. These sandals will work all summer (and most of spring/fall) as casual, everyday, and even dress shoe (since I don't have any other dressy shoe). But I would like to find someone who makes other styles too so my tootsies don't freeze in the winter when I need a dress shoe jk ..... reba

Guest guest
i find that berkenstocks or tevas work great in teh summer time. I am already starting to blow up and socks are becoming unbareable. I wish it was easier w/ clothes and shoes but oh well what are you going to do. Tevas are teh best because they're lightweight but any slip on shoe really works. I dont have the coordination to wear anything w/ heals or w/o straps to hold it on . Guest guest
I wear a brand called acupuncture. They have nothing to do with acupuncture, that is just the name. I originally purchased them b/c I thought they looked really cool. They are kinda crazy looking. They are made in England. They are trainers (sneakers) but they offer more support. They are the only shoes I wear (good thing I can get away with it at work - even w/ dresses). I'll get another pair when these wear out. >>> costello@... 04/14/02 10:48AM >>> I have found Rykas to be very comfortable. It was suggested by someone on this list and has been a lifesaver. Guest guest
Hi Susie, Personally, I don't think tennis shoes give me adequate support. I wear walking shoes with a reinforced arch, because I have very flat feet. I bought them at a running store b/c the salesclerk took the time to watch me walk and asked questions about my arthritis (and where it hurts). I bought my first pair in April 2001 and love them! I still wear them in the winter, but our mild winters the past 2 years don't compare to yours. (I visited St. Cloud, MN in April one year and it had snowed a foot). Hope that helps, in VA With the RA so prominent in my feet I've wondered what the best shoes are and where to buy them. My Rummy tells me to wear tennis shoes, but that isn't possible in the winter here in Minnesota. Any suggestions? What are people here wearing with feet problems? Guest guest
Hello Everyone: I have DD and am on the hunt for shoes again. I have always had good luck with Stride Rite but not having any luck there this time. I am thinking I may need to resort to having something made but hate to do that unless its a place someone has had experience with. I need shoes for professional work setting and comfort is essential because I am on my feet alot. So, if anyone has any suggestions for both shoe brands and/or shoe makers in the New York City area, please pass your information on. Guest guest
Hi, My son is 15ds and has been tying his shoes since 5yo but getting him to do it quick is the problem. this year we bought him a pair of sketchers sneakers that have no laces. He slips them on and off himself. This will help him with changing for gym. usually that is his biggest shoe struggle time wise. Guest guest
Ooops - I do realize there are alot of new velcro shoes that are kewl. Sketchers are very popular shoes. I have to give my MIL credit - when she bought his shoes for Christmas, she asked for the ones that were most popular. I will get something he can slip in and out of easily for summer time. Last year he loved his water shoes. Re: Two important things - Educ. Ouch! still isn't tying his shoes and he will be going to high school next year. I will never give up on trying to get him to tie either. He just started last week to do snaps after years and years of practice. I've seen velcro sneakers on old men, and I refuse to put them on . He would be made fun of terribly in middle school, sorry to say. He tries every morning to tie his shoes and then I double knot them so they stay closed all day. Guest guest
, you are lucky to have older kids. I feel at a disadvantage because I don't know what is cool for 8 year old boys. I do dress in Gap (on sale of course) and Old Navy, so I feel like that is pretty safe, but I do worry that he will look geeky. His feet are VERY small though, so trendy shoes are hard. For a long time it was hard to get him sneakers that didn't have little cars and trains on them! Mom to (8, DS) and Grace (5)
