Guest guest
, I am wearing New Balance 900's right this very second. They are a white with yellow and purple, but are the most reliable shoes I have ever owned. I hate the fact that this is the first pair I have ever had and can't find them anymore. They STINK! My wife wants to throw them out, but I won't let her. The 902's don't look anything like the 900's. They have a little valley, creating a " heel " which I don't do well with (I think the lack of support at the exact place where I need it most encourages rolling) Here they are - http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/789235/c/8104.html - only size 7.5 D are available. I am going to try some 888's in 2E width, hoping a bigger base will help stabilize things. I also just emailed New Balance about where I can find more 900's. Guest guest
, I have NB 1122 shoes and love then, but they are not high top for ankle support. They are the only 11 1/2 , 6E shoes that I know of...ugh! However, NB owns Dunham who makes dress and work shoes and boots. They are made with the same support soles and come in the same sizes. Dunham and NB are the two shoes I wear and both are available online. http://www.dunhambootmakers.com/
Guest guest
Hi , If there is a Foot Solutions store or similar store near you, you might try going in. At Foot Solutions, they scan your feet, analyze how you're standing. They do custom inserts, if needed. They carry the Chung Shis and MBTs, which both have the rocker soles. I went in last Saturday and tried on several different pairs. I was surprised by the Chung Shis - I thought they would be difficult to walk in, but they have very strong support through the heel - this kept my foot from rolling out like it normally does. I guess my balance problems are side to side and not forward/backward. They carry other brands as well - ones with normal soles. I think the really important benefit is the analysis and fitting. You stand a better chance of getting a shoe that's 'right' for your feet. Tonya
Guest guest
Wow! Thanks everybody. Now at least I have someting to actually look for. I am leary about buying online because I'd hate to pay top dollar and not have a fit. But now, when I go to shoe stores, I'll have some things to look for. Thanks all. david fike <defman555@...> wrote: I may be beating a dead horse, but I need shoes. Everything I think is good slowly becomes the wrong thing. I always try to get NB and the last pair I got I though were it they're NB 707's They're BB ball shoes and I thought (and they felt at the time) like they would give me the ankle support I needed. But alas, a think the insole is not correct and my foot is rolling and creating pain on the side of my foot. I could go to every store in town and try every shoe, but as recent history explains, even then it could be wrong down the road. I don't want to go online, because I don't want to buy a $200 pair of shoes, just to find out they don't work for me. I don't know if anyon who get's has figured out, but it seems that, although I may have type 1A and somebody else may have type 1A, the symptoms may vary greatly. I've heard talk of a NB 900 series (not sure of the second 2 numbers) and I like NB. However I'll take any suggestions. I know about the Chung whatever shoes and the idea of rocking sounds like it would throw my already shitty balance for a loop. That is all. --------------------------------- How low will we go? Guest guest
I found Aetrex shoes. I really like the stability they provide. The heel part of the sole is wide enough that they have prevented my ankle from turning outward. They are available in catalogs. Guest guest
Hi- I am new to the group. This is my first post. Recently diagnosed with Chondromalcia in my left knee, but my right knee is affected too. I work in a doctors office for 10 doctors in medical records and run like crazy. My doctor is there and knows I can't do this job much longer. I also have Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Restless Leg Syndrome and Sleep Apnea. I come home exhausted and cry from all the pain. I have a very high tolerence for most pain meds and am on a combination of a lot of different ones. I wanted to respond about the shoes. We can wear tennis shoes or medical shoes that are usually very light weight. Most look like clogs. I've never been able to wear tennis shoes but I went ahead and bought two very expensive pairs after my first day on job (before I knew about the clogs). After just a few hours my feet hurt so bad I wanted to take my shoes off, but couldn't. I suffered terribly for weeks. After about a month our hospital had a sale and I bought two pairs of the Rockets, very light-weight, slip on shoes. What a difference! I now wear Klogs and Rockets brands, which can be purchased at any medical uniform store. At first I only wore them to work. Now I find myself wearing them all the time. They are so comfortable, don't hurt my feet and seem to help with my knee. My doctor also prescribed Neoprene Knee Sleeve, with Open Patella. It slips on over my foot and really gives my knee good support. He had me get two of them since my other knee seems to going too. They were $15.00 each through the pharmacy where I work. Sorry for the long post. Thanks for listening. Merry Christmas to all! > > > > > I have been walking on my teadmill, 1.5 miles a day, very slowly and > > last night had a terrible night with the pain. > > > > > > > > > > > > __________________________________________________ > >

Guest guest
Hello Everyone; I had surgery on my left foot Dec. 6, a result of the RA. My ortho Dr. who did the surgery stated that with RA and joint issues, the feet take a pounding, lol. He suggested that I support my arches as much as possible because in a lot of RA patients, especially women the arches collapse and the nerves then become compressed as in my case, surgery is the only way to correct the compression. The bad part of the surgery is 6-8 weeks of bedrest, cast and PT. I firmly believe in a preventative plan from now on. I wear Kangeroo shoes, they have a really great arch support and also Birkenstock shoes have the best support out there if you can afford them. You can browse on their online store. I also have some great feet exercises that I can share if you would like them, just let me know. Have a great and painfree day!! Guest guest
Lori, has Orthotics. She mostly wears them in her sneakers. She wears her dress shoes without them. But carries her sneakers in her bag. Heck she wears those High heels as well. The Ortho inserts have been great though as it is formed for her feet. The Therapist said she doesn't need to just wear 1 pair as she can insert in any shoe. New Balance is a good shoe to get as well. As with girls they have a assortment of shoes lolol. 's last pair of sneakers I helped with. I did the Mom test with them. lolol. I myself like the lighter shoe. I showed how better the lighter shoe would be with lifting her legs and feet. She bought the light shoe. A Doctor will tell you to wear a flat dress shoe. So sneakers fit this. says the higher heel helps her though. But she doesn't wear them all day. Walmart has had some shoes which fit like a sneaker but looks like a dress shoe. Stride Rite use to measure the child and have them special made. I think they still do this. As a year or so ago I went looking for the Patten leather High top shoes for my niece and Stride rite was the only ones who sold them. They also helped me fit her in the right size shoe. Ask the PT about fitting your daughter with a Orthotic so she can wear any shoe she wants to. has many but she dont wear the same shoe each day. Guess it depends on how she feels. Guest guest
Hello Meg. I have to wear custom made orthotics in my shoes else I can't walk at all. My insurance covered the cost 100%. Most of the time I wear my New Balance Sneakers, which are made in wide and extra wide sizes. For dress shoes, I bought two pairs of casual shoes from The Naturalizer (Provost in my mall). I can't tell you how much the orthotics help. Without them I'd be in a wheel chair. HTH, Lori [ ] Shoes Question #2: My feet hurt a lot, especially by the end of the day. Guest guest
Hello, When we get shoes for our three year old with JRA, we take her to a local shoe store that has someone on staff that deals with these sorts of things. He cuts things down to put into her shoes, knows which shoes would be better for her than others . . . I wonder if there is something where you live? It is a small local chain with amazing service. I know that the particular person is trained in this area. I do not have JRA but have found that s make a very comfortable shoe. I tend to only wear their shoes, now that I've tried them! Good luck. Guest guest
I also got custom orthotic Birkenstocks from a podiatrist. I wear them every day. They are terribly expensive, and my old insurance paid for most of the cost. Unfortunately, my new insurance won't cover foot orthotics unless it's a diabetic claim, but I am thinking about trying to get a letter of medical necessity to see if I can get around it. Guest guest
Hi, I wear orthotic inserts that my brother designed for my feet several years ago. You would need to see a foot specialist to have them made. My brother wasn't a doctor but worked for a specialty shoe store. Since I wear orthotic, I wear sneakers with removable " sock " linings so I can put the orthotics in. Same would be true for shoe inserts. My favortie shoes are New Balance. Guest guest
Hi My daughter has problems with her feet sometimes - the physiotherapist who works with her recommended " New Balance " running shoes. If you go to a particular kind of shoe store they actually have someone who 'fits' them and they have the largest line of widths and varying arch supports of any other kind of shoe. We've had really great success with that kind. Lynn mom to Mickey, (almost!) 13, systemic jra since
Guest guest
I love Easy Spirits too, and SAS (I only have 2 pair because they're pretty expensive). There's also a brand called " Strictly Comfort " I found at JC Penny that makes professional looking flats that are very comfy. And I'm picky--I had one foot resectioned, the other needs it, and my feet are consequently about a size and a half difference. Guest guest
Yes, that is it. She needed a pair of nice black shoes when her youth symphony performed in Carnegie Hall and she would need to wear them all day on cobblestone etc. I had no idea what to do because that would just not work. But the saleslady at Nordstrom brought out some Sass, they were casual dress shoe. We were thinking we would have to get a doctors note because they would be so tacky. But, she was wearing a long dress and she plays in the viola section so not right out front. Anyways, no one can see her shoes so they were perfect. She is in college studying to be a school teacher and they work great for being on your feet so much. e Jill Hutslar <shutslar@...> wrote: Is the other brand your trying to think of maybe " sass " ? My daughter wears a woman's size 6 shoe. Her feet bother her so much with her RA and she needs to put arch supports in her shoes. Most of the time she wears running shoes with arch supports added. However, she would really like to find a nice casual shoe she can wear with skirts and dresses and that she can still fit her arch supports into. Does anyone know of a manufacturer who makes comfortable shoes? We went to several stores in the mall, but there was nothing her arch supports would fit into, and suddenly finding shoes for her seems like a very difficult task.
