Guest guest
Breezy is 18 and her foot seems so small for her body size. She wears a child's 3 and we usually buy the velco style mary janes in a wide width even tho they do not wrap all the way across the velcro closure they do go about 3/4 of the way across and do stay on and have a good arch support. She really only wants to wear tennis shoes for Special Olympics and we get the Nike soft tops, again they have a good arch support. Since she has such flat feet I think they help save her back and legs. She puts them on to go to SP, takes them off between events and puts them back on to throw or run and then off they go again. She had adorable silver ballet flats for preprom; wore them once, and picked out a pretty pair of light pink for special occasions, which have not happened so they are still new in the box. Guest guest
hi, i don't know if this is even the place to ask this or not? but gonna give it a shot.. does anyone else have problems finding shoes to wear? I personally can't wear anything with a built-in arch, or if it is HEAVY in any way. I can't " tote " them. They really give my legs out. as for the arch, well it throws me more off-balance than usual.. dont' know if anyone else suffers through this or not. i used to be able to buy the " cheap " shoes that were white and no support at the local dollar store but no more, wish i knew " Where " i could find them again, does anyone have any idea?? as for sandals/boots i can't wear them much b/c of the weight to them.. i have to be real particular in picking and choosing what i wear... any help would be much appreciated, please also factor in the cost of these shoes as well, thanks so much in advance, Tracey > > >
Guest guest
wears about a size 2 1/2 to 3. we usually buy them at StrideRite, according to the sales lady they do get quite a few adults. needed/needs a shoe that fits a wide foot. StrideRite has them and in different styles. We have actually found a sneaker with a funny name that she really likes. She can also wear some Sketchers styles we seem to have bought another pair that will be given away because they are just sitting there, so Sketchers are a hit an miss thing. I think we first went there looking for a dress shoe that she could walk in, when she was small that wasn't a problem you could find wide widths for kids in more places, since she is now almost 21 (YIKES) we have to pick a nice none childish shoe and most places don't have them in wide widths that we like so we will conint looking a striderite. Guest guest
Hi , I would think this is a question almost all of us can answer with a resounding YES! Most people living with CMT have some challenge when it comes to footwear.....not all the same challenges I must add. For me the shoe has to be completely flat and I mean completely! Any variance from toe to heel and I am wobbling like a drunken sailor! In order for me to walk the shoes have to fasten around my instep with a strap or velcro (can't have laces as my hands don’t work to tie them). My husband has recommended duct tape a couple of times....men think duct tape resolves all problems! Also have to be really lightweight or I can't lift my feet. Whenever I find shoes that I can actually walk in, I usually buy them in every available colour, because I know when I'm looking they will be impossible to find. As for boots I know that Uggs are comfortable and light but also very expensive. I found boots that look like Uggs which are flat and super light, they were only $24 from Winners....I guess aptly named for me because I can walk in them....hooray! I usually have better luck buying children's shoes....I have pretty small feet...well not actually pretty but definitely small Whenever someone says; " Life is a journey, that starts with a single step " , I want to answer " OK Grasshopper but try it with my feet! " Warm wishes, From: Tracey Edmundson Sent: Monday, November 08, 2010 7:09 AM Subject: Re: shoes hi, i don't know if this is even the place to ask this or not? but gonna give it a shot.. does anyone else have problems finding shoes to wear? Guest guest
Our Denver group website ( http://www.cmtausa.org/sag/denver ) includes a " resource guide " that includes footwear. Here are the online sources that we list: (Some of the sources listed are Denver-area stores, but those listed have a website. All comments are by Diane, our facilitator.) National Odd Shoe Exchange This nonprofit organization based in Chandler, Arizona, provides " split " pairs of shoes in different sizes as well as single shoes. 480-892-3484 or oddshoe.org. L.L. Bean, sells split pairs for 1 ½ times the price of one pair. 800-441-5713; llbean.com for details. SAS Comfort Shoes www.sasshoes.com Ask to be on their mailing list, and you'll receive an occasional coupon for $10 off a purchase. FootSmart Catalog 1-800-870-7149 www.footsmart.com This catalog offers a plethora of products from shoes and socks, to foot care items, custom insoles, exercise bands, and items to help with everyday activities. It's definitely worth a call to request a catalog. www.healthyfeetstore.com An excellent online source for footwear. They offer an enormous selection of products for those of us who have trouble finding comfortable shoes, especially if you need extra-depth shoes to accommodate AFOs or orthotics. One support group member recommends the Drew walking shoe called " Force " for men and " Motion " for women. Murray's Shoes -- The Foot Health Store 5066 S. Wadsworth Blvd. Littleton, CO 303-972-8436 www.murraysshoes.com Dardano's 1550 S. Colorado Blvd. Denver, CO 877-327-3266 www.dardanos.com For over 60 years and three generations, the Dardano family has been providing quality comfort footwear and repair service to their customers. They feature a complete orthopedic department with certified Pedorthists on staff focused on performance and solving your foot discomfort issues. **Call to make an appointment if you wish to be fitted by a pedorthist.** One of our support group members buys her shoes here. When I met her and saw her shoes and orthotics, I was impressed with how attractive they were. After looking all over creation with no success for an attractive dress shoe that can accommodate an orthotic, I'll be going to Dardano's to fill this need. Brown's Shoe Fit 373 Main Street Longmont, CO 303-776-2920 www.brownsshoefitco.com They carry SAS shoes plus numerous other lines. Store is newly remodeled and is a good place to find a variety of shoes that may be comfortable for wearing with orthotics or AFOs. Pedestrian Shops - www.comfortableshoes.com 1425 Pearl Street The Village, next to McGuckin's Boulder, CO Boulder, CO 303-449-5260 303-449-7440 I haven't shopped here, but I do know they have a good selection of comfortable shoes. Republic Shoes 2482 S. Colorado Blvd. Denver, CO 303-756-9164 www.republicshoes.com info@... I've purchased several pairs of shoes here, and the selection and service is phenomenal. They have a huge selection of shoes and sizes in stock. Customer service is fantastic. Well worth checking out. -- * " Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it. Guest guest
For those looking for shoes, have you tried Zappos dot com? I know it's better to try shoes on but if you're not finding anything local, Zappos is my recommendation. You can search by shoe size and width, plus other criteria - casual/dressy/work/athletic, shoe color, leather/synthetic. They have customer reviews so you can read what others have thought of the shoes and get a feel for whether they run wide or short or whatever. I have ordered from them before and they are good about returns. I ordered five pairs, returned four and didn't have any problems. Shipping both ways is free. As an example, I found over 5000 items in women's size 5! Mens size 3 has nearly 200 options - most are Converse. (Who knew Converse so many options? There's a Dr. Seuss high top!) In the 500+ kids size 3 there are some options that aren't in the least bit juvenile looking. Obviously they aren't all appropriate for kids (and some are crazy expensive) but there's probably something that would work. Guest guest
My son, 12, wears sketchers because of the rubber toes so he doesn't wear the shoe out as quickly playing. He used to wear DC because they have wide width but his foot is not longer wide. A friend of mine uses Vans for her son, 14, but he doesn't play hard so they work for him. Guest guest
Hi Sara can not tie her shoes either, she can verbally tell you all the steps but her fingers just can't do it. we go to the New Balance store for her shoes, they carry the wide widths. Sara is also a sz 3 kids and would love to wear some of the trendy boats and shoes but they are never wide enough. She does love her ballet type shoes and her Stride Rite Janes for dresses. She noticed this week how small her hands and feet are compared to mine. She laughed and said I have GIANT hands. Guest guest
Can anyone recommend a good pair of shoes for my husband's severely swollen feet? He's been wearing Crocs but they're not suitable for winter. We live in an area that gets a lot of snow and cold.
