Has anyone been watching the PBS News Hour,

this week? McNeil is doing a series on Autism. You can go to

pbs.org/NewsHour. They have an entire page devoted to Autism where you can post

comments, your own stories, questions, etc., as well as view the segments that

have already aired. I believe the series will be complete by the end of the

week, or next week, and there will be a follow-up Q & A, and whatever else

comes up.

of CA, :

" It's not to say, however, that there

is a small subset of children who may be particularly vulnerable to vaccines if

the child was ill, if the child had a precondition, like a mitochondrial

defect. Vaccinations for those children actually may be the environmental

factor that tipped them over the edge of autism. And I think it's -- it is

incredibly important still to try and figure out what, if any, vulnerabilities

in a small subset of children might make them at risk for having certain

vaccinations. "

Dr. Martha Herbert, professor of neurology at Harvard Medical

School:

" I think it's possible that you could

have a genetic subgroup. You also might have an immune subgroup. There are a

variety of subgroups. But the problem with the population studies is they don't

they aren't necessarily designed to have the statistical power to find

subgroups like that if the subgroups are small. "

These two top experts echo the words of Dr. Bernadine Healy on CBS News in

She said then that we haven't looked for a subgroup of susceptible children who

may be harmed by vaccinations.

It's clear the issue isn't settled and unless and until we honestly address

this question, the controversy will only grow more heated.

Sheri - maybe it's just this week but I am soooo sick of these "expert" reports! We, as parents of kids with Autism, ADD/ADHD, asthma, allergies, diabetes, and God knows what else ARE NOT IN THE MINORITY anymore!!! We are all, as a society suffering from a toxic burden, which is why we cannot deal well with all the additional toxins in vaccines, especially babies and children who have immature immune systems. It's just too much, ruining the health of everyone. They have their heads in the sand! I am tired of these idiots. Bad mood today I guess - I know better and try to keep the focus on "baby steps" re these reports, but honestly! It's just insulting much of the time!
