Guest guest
I had NO idea the use of this barbaric and inhumane technique was still so commonly used. They used it on my friend who cold-turkeyed from Celexa. Horrifying. Lynn _________________________________________________________
Guest guest
and they mixed the ECT with Remeron, Effexor, Risperdal, Ambien and Xanax. I ran to their house and saved her life by getting her off 3 of the meds with medical help on the phone and stopped the ECT scheduled for the next day. Started a benzo taper and to switch her from Effexor (the most horrid) to a longer-acting SSRI which she can eventually taper. It was the wife of a SURGEON who was trusting his medical peers as he was used to being trusted. WRONG! Apparently, it took that type of extreme abuse to wake them up. It's all very frightening to me that this type of thing is continuing to happen as if no one has learned by now that it does NOT work!!!!! > In a message dated 3/12/02 9:07:49 PM Mountain Standard Time, > nirenbergl@y... writes: > > > > They used it on my friend who cold-turkeyed from Celexa. > > Horrifying. > > > I suppose it's the only cure for withdrawals!! Guest guest
No, but as a nurse and as a parent, I would not recommend it... Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@... ECT Does anyone have any experience or knowlege regarding electro convulsive therapy? Especially for someone on the austism spectrum? Thanks, Ellen K
Guest guest
Oh my Gosh....ditto Ellen.....I also would NOT recommend it. List members, I too am a nurse, and we are starting to perform ECT on severely mentally ill patients at my work- meaning NOTHING else has worked and they are completely non functional. Of coarse, none of these pts to my knowledge are also on the spectrum. Anyways, trust me, if you ever were wittness to this procedure I can assure you no one here would even consider this for a ASD child. Guest guest
Dear Ellen , I am sure you have tried everything. I wanted to share an experience with you about our daughter on the autism spectrum. She was having horrible what I will call tantrums for lack of a better word. These consisted of screaming (blood-curdling), self injurious behaviors, and also injury to those around her, etc, etc. To make a long story short, we discovered that she has Irritable Bowel Syndrome. One tiny tablet under the tongue and within 15 minutes she is smiling again. For us this is nothing short of a miracle. We took her to a pediatric gastroenterologist and the diagnosis did come by trial and error but the patience was worth it. I hope this might help you as well. I am sorry I missed your original post. Good luck and prayers to you and your family, Vonda _____ From: IPADDUnite [mailto:IPADDUnite ] On Behalf Of Ellen Bronfeld Sent: Thursday, November 29, 2007 6:48 PM IPADDUnite Subject: Re: Re: ECT This is to Ellen ...I am wondering how your daughter is doing and what if anything you did about the recommendation for ECT?
