What more perfect time for unifying our Menstrual Magic on behalf of the Gulf crisis and sending our powerful prayers out to the ocean from different points all over the world? There was a time when women bled together in synchrony with the Dark/New Moon, signaling a release of the old and catalyzing an influx of estrogen for a new cycle. These days, because we live separately and have electric lights on all the time, our bleeding cycles may not be synchronized with the Dark Moon. But it is still a potent time for collective magic and a release of female energies and desires into the world. When we do group magic, it’s good to synchronize not only with each other, but also with the alignment of planets and tides. Greenwich mean time (England) for the New Moon is 12:15 pm on Saturday, June 12th. In Santa Cruz, California, where I live, the precise time for the New Moon is 4:15 am (8 hours earlier). For my Italian students, it is 1:15 pm. And for those of you who have contacted me from Australia, you are either 8, 9, or 10 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (depending on where you live on the continent), so your New Moon is in the evening. Magic done prior to the New Moon (Friday night, for instance) can focus on the release of toxins and the binding (or containment) of the oil spill, along with sorrow for the suffering of all. If you wait until after the New Moon event to work your magic, then you want to begin to pray for regeneration, new life, effective new solutions, even miracles—feel the energy, let something new happen. We don’t have to know HOW to do a thing in order to pray that it might be done. The Earth has regenerative capacities that are beyond our rational or scientific knowledge. Pray that those channels of ancient knowledge and wisdom might activate. If you want to call in Vajrayogini, as I have suggested in earlier posts, then simply focus on her special syllable (BAM). If you happen to be bleeding, create her syllable (see photo) with your menstrual blood. Imagine that this potent symbol sits in your heart, glowing. Or hold an image of Vajrayogini herself in your heart—become her, unite with her—and send out your blessings to the world, to the ocean and all the beings affected by the oil spill. If we aim to do our magic exactly at the time of the New Moon, then there will be a wave of women across the globe who are calling in Vajrayogini and sending her powerful energies from every direction. If you are bleeding, please add your sacred blood to a moving body of water near your home, or if that’s not an option, then give it to the earth in your backyard. Water your plants with your prayers; menstrual blood is one of the most potent natural fertilizers on the planet. And celebrate the power of the sacred female to bleed, and the potent regenerative power of Mother Earth to cleanse and heal. Make a wish for all beings to realize the Dakini, the wild and indomitable nature of life and love in the universe. When we invoke the Five Dakinis from the four directions and the center, the simple mantra we use is: BAM HA RI NI SA. Repeat it hundreds or thousands of times! Create a charge of power and then send it to the Gulf, or give it to the ocean. It’s good to recognize that there are powers greater than ourselves and we don’t necessarily understand or control them. When we gathered in Tuscany for our Vajrayogini retreat last month, I took a photo of the sunset. But instead of a sunset, the photo clearly shows a mandala of red spheres (center, and four directions). Dakinis are known to appear inside of such spheres, which are called “thigles†in Tibetan. This unexpected spontaneous manifestation of Vajrayogini (see attached photo) is a reminder of how much is possible when we make ourselves available to the healing forces.
