CDC 10/12/11 CHINA: " Chinese Experts Working on New Ways to 'Inject' Hepatitis

Vaccines "

Xinhua News Agency (10.07.11)

Chinese scientists report they are working on new hepatitis vaccine delivery

methods, such as spraying the medicine into a patient’s nose, to replace

traditional injections. The research was discussed Friday at a Beijing press

conference held in advance of next July’s 14th International Symposium on Viral

Hepatitis and Liver Disease in Shanghai. Experts believe achieving broad

coverage of hepatitis vaccination is an effective way to make progress toward

China’s goal of controlling hepatitis B virus. The Ministry of Health credits

China’s immunization program for protecting 80 million people from HBV in the

past 19 years. The estimated 93 million Chinese with HBV account for more than

one-quarter of the world’s infected population.
