Guest guest
Welcome!!! You're in a good place. Ask away!!!!!! Some cities have support groups for "spectrum" issues through a school. I'd ask around. Also,,,,,maybe a local behavioral health doctors office may know of a group locally. We have been working on this since he was 3 when he got diagnosed with Autism. Due to his father being in the military, we moved right after he was diagnosed (1 week). When we relocated, the doctors reversed the diagnosis saying he was a normal high active boy. Then he started school. We were working with the school to figure out why he behaved the way he did. Then we moved again. His dad and I desided to divorce. I have been working with his new school and with his new doctors. I have never heard of Asperger's prior to 3 months ago when the doctors listed off what they were testing him for. Now reading through all the information I am finding, it fits him well. Everywhere I look the descriptions seem to be a biography about my son. Now I am just trying to a support group to help with understanding and information. Also for different ideas to help him and myself deal and learn to live with and better our lives as well as give info on anything that I figure out that may help someone else. Need a vacation? Guest guest
used to go to a play group therapy to learn social skills. She really liked it a lot! They did role playing, learned to play games (taking turns, encouraging each other), talk about their feelings. Maybe there is something like that near you! Guest guest
Thank you for the welcome. I am eager to be able to focus on getting him on the right track now that I have an idea about how to do it. The school my son is in is decent. His teacher is real understanding and knows how to teach children of different capasities. I am looking at calling the local board of MR/DD and Autism society to apply for the scholarships and possibly sending him to Imm. next year. Imm. is a school that is specifically designed to work with autism and the autism spectrum including AD/HD. But then I was also thinking about home schooling him. Not sure yet which of the 3 options would be best for him. I don't want to make any mid year transits. As for being familure with asperger's, I guess I am a little more familure with it than I knew. I found out today from my mom that my brother was diagnosed asperger's. I knew he was ad/hd but not asperger's. So I have dealt with it before but not exactly the same as I will with my son. I have been reading up as much as I can on the subject when I have time. (I have 3 children to tend to which he is the oldest). Any additional information that I might not pick up as easily off a web site is more than appriciated. I will soak up everything I can to help him and his siblings. Thank you again for the warm welcome. > Yesterday my son was finally diagnosed with Asperger's and AD/HD. He > is 8 years old.
