Hi Kirk,What time frame does this map represent? How is this to be interpreted as compared to what is the norm from day to day in the U.S.?

Thanks in advance for helping me interpret this important info correctly. The mere fact that there are so many red flags is very scary, On Wed, Mar 16, 2011 at 8:07 PM, Kirk McLoren <kirkmcloren@...> wrote:

hi . here is a link to a us map that shows the radiation levels and is updated every minute. this is an all volunteer effort so the whole country is not specifically covered, but it is still helpful.

on this map, the 'alert' level is 126. on the website link accompanying the map link it is stated that emergency measures, ie stay in the house, should be taken if the levels reach 80-90. right now, the levels are within the normal range.

Re: radiation beginning

That map doesn't say what the numbers mean but the west coast numbers are twice as high as the east coast numbers are!

notice Maine where it is just arriving?

that is background count

if you go to the home page they have links to past reports and criteria for milk, water, air and precipitation

the legend in the lower right tells you the capability of the station- red means near real time Gamma

they have a contact number if you need clarification

Air

Overall Air Programs

As of March 2011 The RadNet Air Program consists of 124 real-time air monitors. An additional 10 monitors are scheduled to be installed this year. Continuously operating samplers collect airborne particulates on filters that are collected twice weekly and sent to NAREL for analysis. A gross beta analysis is performed on each air filter, and a gamma scan is done if the beta activity is greater than 1 pCi per cubic meter. Annual composites of the air particulates filters are analyzed for plutonium (Pu-238, Pu-239, Pu-240) and uranium (U-234, U-235, U-238).

Expansion and Upgrade of Air Program

Over the past several years, the RadNet air program has undergone an expansion and upgrade. All new air stations now provide gamma data in near real-time that is transmitted to a central database accessible to both decision makers and the public. Filters from the new monitors will continue to be submitted twice weekly for fixed laboratory analyses, and all new real-time sites are equipped with an alpha/beta counting system, improving upon the traditional beta only capability. As of March 2011, 124 near real-time monitors have been installed. The locations of these new monitors are shown on the Air Program page. The expanded and upgraded system improves geographical and population coverage and better supports response to potential national radiation emergencies. Analytical Scheme And Primary Rationale For Routine Operations

Air Particulates Analyses

Primary Rationale

Individual Samples:Gross Beta. A Gamma Analysis Is Performed If Elevated Gross Beta Levels Are Found

Screening Analyses Employed To Detect Elevated Levels Of Radioactivity

Annual Composite Samples:Isotopic Pu And U (performed on composite samples from all sites)

Radionuclides Of Concern For Facility And Site Monitoring Activities

This printable map shows the locations of the RadNet air sampling stations. Click on the map for a larger view.

BTW the map was taken down and Obummer says not to prepare

I note he is hanging out in Rio and Bush is in Paraguay

Wish I was in Oz or New Zealand

It isnt a big problem yet - just keep an eye on the reactor fueled with MOX. That stuff is so bad it shouldnt be used.

If that burns you need to see the wind map for that day.

I was prompted to pay $79 for the interactive map that updates in real time. :(

notice Maine where it is just arriving?

that is background count

if you go to the home page they have links to past reports and criteria for milk, water, air and precipitation

the legend in the lower right tells you the capability of the station- red means near real time Gamma

they have a contact number if you need clarification

Hi Kirk,What time frame does this map represent? How is this to be interpreted as compared to what is the norm from day to day in the U.S.?Thanks in advance for helping me interpret this important info correctly. The mere fact that there are so many red flags is very scary,
