Bio: Ponce returned to Chicago from Washington, D.C., where he had served for two years as National Correspondent for The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. Phil first joined WTTW in 1992 as correspondent for Chicago Tonight. In addition to regular reporting assignments, Ponce also served as the primary substitute host of the series and regularly hosted the Tuesday night broadcast. He also hosted television specials on a range of topics including education reform, immigration, religion and the changing American workplace, and wrote a monthly column for the Chicago Tribune. Ponce spent nearly ten years as an Emmy Award-winning reporter for WBBM-TV, where he also served as host of the public affairs series, Common Ground. Before that, he was a reporter and member of the investigative team for the ABC television affiliate in Indianapolis. He earned his undergraduate degree in English literature at Indiana University and a law degree from the University of Michigan.
